What's it like?

We are heading from AZ to AL and plan on taking I-20 across after taking I-10 to 20. Can someone tell me if there are any problems on I-20? I know about Dallas/Fort Worth but anything else we need to be concerned about? Thanks for any advice in advance!

Shreveport/Bossier City. Roughest stretch of any interstate I have ever been on. Take I-220 around the north side. Only slightly longer.

Amen, I’d avoid Shreveport. If you’re not in a hurry take some of state roads across Texas. Good roads and easy rolling.

Texas does have very good smaller highways. But I-20 from Dallas to Shreveport is good and I-20 from Bossier City as far as Monroe is good. It is only that few miles that is so bad.

The good news is that West <> East I-20 is the best way across DFW. I have found that the traffic flows so that I rarely have to slow below posted speed. Of course, an accident can change that suddenly but I have been fortunate to have never experienced that. Just go with the flow!

That section of I-20 in Shreveport not bad, it is beyond terrible. The first and only time (we now bypass it every year) I thought things would come apart, I had to slow down below the speed limit just to feel safe.

Under the speed limit? You are lucky. I went over I10 some years back and it was so bad in La. that I had to slow to 45-60mph.

LA Highway 90

Worst excuse for a 4 lane highway that I've ever come across in all my life. Highway 90 south of I-10 at Lafayette, LA. Not tightening up one's seat belt is not an option.....
