What is this?
Underneath our vanity is this black contraption with two PVC lines attached to it.
What is it and what is it for?

That is your black tank flush lines. I believe the black part is the vacuum breaker or anti-siphon valve. Most people have complained about it leaking after just a few uses so keep an eye on it. Mine hasn't leaked yet, but I watch it from time to time.

Mine has not leaked either, but I keep a eye on it. It's easy because of it's location to check for leaks when I flush the Black tank.

This is the backflow preventer used on your black water tank flush hose connection located in your convenience center.

If you experience any leaking at all, either under your sink or down in your storage compartment below, chances are it will be leaking from that item there.

Ok because we found it leaking water over the weekend. So I guess it needs to be repaired?

Mine broke & was located in a next to impossible spot. Found it in the wall behind the shower, in the space where the pocket door opens into. Although I think that "code" says it must be located higher than any drain in the unit, I bypassed the factory lines, & ran a new line direct from the hose hook up to the black tank with a one way check valve to prevent any back flow. May not be code, BUT it works.

leemedic,
Mine is located in the same place and it leaked one time about a year ago but it has not leaked since. Not exactly sure why, but all has been good since.

Well it was pretty wet in the vanity. I don't want to take a chance, it is easy to change out, so if the Valterra A10-3050 is a better quality, I am always looking for ways to make our mobile home on wheels better.

My flush stopped spraying much water, so I took mine apart. It just has a little ball in it that stops the back flow. I just took the ball out and will use an external backflow valve. Much better pressure now.

Had mine swapped out with a metal one. Unfortunately I didn't do it myself so I don't have a part number or manufacturer.

Mine was behind shower and had no access because of pocket door. Cut out the defective check valve and used shark bite connectors, eliminating the check valve completely. Some on this forum have went this route also. Another poor design by Keystone.
