Fantastic Fan/Vent

One of my fantastic fans is making a 'clicking' sound at low speeds and source is not obvious. How do you remove the fan and motor combo without taking the entire assembly out? There ar four screws that hold the motor/fan unit in place but the upper casing diameter is too small hence the fan will not pass through it and I can't see how to easily remove the casing. Alternative would be to remove fan from motor but not sure how. Any ideas? Or, perhaps someone could point me to a useful website?? Thanks, B
