Sagging Pocket Door

Our pocket door has been slowly sagging out on the bottom. I tried adjusting the bolt in the roller on the top but there wasn't enough there. Closer inspection revealed that the rear bracket was loose on the top of the door. We removed the door, tightened the screws and re-installed the door. Well, that's not the problem. Off with the door again, looked back into the wall and there were only 2 screws back in there holding the track up and they were loose letting the track droop almost 1/2". There was no way to get in to tighten those. Thanks to a previous post by Nailbender I made an extension. I got a 3/8" rod and welded a 1/4" socket on the end. This socket will fit the driver bit of your choice. I used an extended bit with a plastic finder on it. This held the screw firmly in place while I reached way up in the wall a screwed it in.

Here is the whole assembly. It's pretty long, from the top of my foot to the top of my glasses, but worked fine, I had no problem putting the screw in, didn't drop a one.

Good job Charlie!! Those loose screws in the door track are pretty common. Bring that puppy to Goshen and Quartzite and folks will be lining up to use it. The hourly rental rate will probably pay for your trip

Excuse my ignorance but what is the pocket door? Looking around my rig I can't find anything that fits the description of the fix so don't know whether I might have a similar problem at somestage.

Cheers

Good info, Charlie! And good pictures. BUT, next time I'd rather see Nila holding that rod than you!

Craig,
A pocket door is a sliding door that disappears into the wall when in the opened position. Not all rigs have them, so don't worry if you cannot find one in yours.
