I see someone with a CB traveling every now and again but not many at all. I got rid of my last one in the mid 90s and it was just for my Jeep when we ran across the mountains. Think I still have an old Midland stuck on a shelf out in the shop somewhere...

I've got a Midland handheld that I've had for at least 20 years. I only use it to listen to truckers tell which lane to be in when the traffic comes to a stop.

I am still on 11 meter's (CB) also 10 thru 40 meter's, 2 meter's, 440 & 6 meter's. Its call ham radio.

We got one given to us by a friend in 2016 and paid to have it professionally installed (antenna, etc.). We rarely use it, just when traffic comes to a stop and the truckers talk about why it is stopped.

The very same reason to monitor and have it on. The days of trash talking have gone way side. It is not the radio of dirty mouth like it was back in the 70's.
Yes on the rare occasion you will hear 4 letter words. This is why I was turned off for many years. Back in the day when you had an FCC license for CB radio. People were more respectful. There were still the yahoo's.
I am now a Licensed Ham Radio no code operator. But there is no standard on a Frequency for RVers.
I Plan to take this up with national to at least have them designate a Frequency within the 200Mhz band and 400Mhz band for meet up and then take the talk to a different frequency for chat.
Similar to VHF Marine Band. VHF CH16 for Coast Guard emergency and mayday contacts, chats move, go to a different channel for conversation.

I have one but only turn it on if I need info. Too much trash talk and law breakers running linear amps which blast everyone else out of the water.

I have a CB on my Honda Goldwing and use it all the time when I ride with a group of motorcycle riders. Otherwise, I haven’t used one since the mid-90’s while RV’g.

Same here except for 6m.
We turn on the CB when there's a traffic tie up.
Like to use the 2m & 440 when travelling.

If you're in a totally dead zone, like in some areas in the Rockies, there's a good chance you can reach a ham repeater in the area during an emergency.

And there's a good chance in those situations to use your ham transceiver to access phone patch, where available on ham repeaters, to get a call through to 911 when you're in a cellphone null area.

The CB is great when traveling with a group. We find a less used channel so don't have to listen to much trash. Cell phones are a great backup if someone gets out of range. Sometimes we use the CB to find out about traffic tie ups.

We still have on and also use it when traveling with friends. We're all GoodSam members and use channel 13 which is the unofficial GoodSam channel.

Happy to see a fellow ham out there! My husband is KA9VRX, holds an extra class license and is a volunteer examiner. I’m KB9NVJ and hold a technicians license. Hubby is on a radio all the time. We bought a new truck and have yet to get the ham unit installed. On the list of things to do!!

HAMs should, well I think they should monitor 146.520 when on the road or anytime possible. Most radios now have the ability to monitor more than one frequency at a time. Please always have one set to 146.520.

We have a group of 6 that travels a lot together and all of us have a CB, great to provide information to the others if a mechanical issue arises or for giving information on where to turn or which off ramp to take. So far they have worked out great and I don't think any of us spent more than $60 for the radio plus antenna.
