Fla. Gulf side Campground for Feb.

We are looking to spend Feb. 2017 in Florida. We would like to be between Panama City and Clearwater. Does anyone have a suggestion? Wanting full hookups and near the beach would be nice. Two adults and the famous labradoodle. Thanks.

Check out Ho Hum Rv Resort near Carabelle,FL. Small venue-on the water-great place for dogs-miles of beach to walk-fresh seafood.

I would do search really quick and make calls as a lot of places have repeat customers and waiting lists. John

try cape san blas vacation rentals. They have RV lots (not campground or park) that are private and beach front. Dog friendly beach, no high rise, and very private. We stayed in the Dolphin Run lot and could see the water and beach from our rear window.

Check out Cedar Key. Sunset Isle RV Park. Small park on the water. Great sunsets. Restaurant on site for breakfast an lunch. Fun Tiki Bar walking distance down the road. Small town away from busy areas.

Don't want to rain on your parade, but if you are planning on walking the beach in shorts and a t-shirt during your stay you may be disappointed. We have friends that spend January to February in that general area and they seldom get out of long pants and sweatshirts.

Thanks JandC, don't worry about raining on our parade. I really like getting everyone's opinion. We just retired last fall and trying some places. Yeah, I was thinking we are too far north for the all time shorts. This trip we were trying to stay above freezing. Hope we can do that.

I do have a question, maybe you can help me with. Since I store indoors, I do not winterize. Am I ok to travel to my destination if temps are below freezing and only using enough fresh water to get us there? Traveling in winter is new to us, never traveled in freezing weather before. Any help would be great. Maybe I should start a new topic. Thanks

LDMoore06, in 2013 we ended up in central Illinois until the day after Christmas and then pulled out for Florida. In 2014 we ended up in Clarksville TN until and day after Christmas and then headed to Florida. During both of these winter tows we experienced some pretty low temps until getting down into Alabama. Starting out in TN you shouldn't have any issues at all.

I had a heated fresh water hose just in case. I didn't haul fresh water in my tank if the temps were below 28 or 27 degrees. We used full service CG's on the way down and never tried to stop at Walmarts. While towing down the road I kept my furnace set between 50 and 55 and the hot water heater shut off. I checked my model when all the slides were in to make sure my heat registers were not blocked.

To avoid higher elevations we always went south on I-65 to Montgomery AL, then US RT 231 down through Dothan, and then I-10 in Florida. About 95% of US RT 231 is 4-lane divided with new pavement. You have to go through a few towns but we were never in a hurry anyway. Actually even how that we are back in a sticknbrick in Florida we still go back and forth 3 times a year on that route. I haven't seen Atlanta in a very long time.

We have spent part of a winter in the panhandle of Florida, over by Orlando, in the Venice/Sarasota area, and then in the Ft. Myers/Cape Coral metro area. Each area has it's positives and negatives. In the end we decided on higher temps and more beaches, but we are dealing with tons of traffic and higher prices.

You will enjoy the panhandle area and the weather will certainly be better than back home!

We live full time in Naples Rv Resort and the only thing i can say is. DON'T WAIT, RESERVATIONS, RESERVATIONS, RESERVATIONS. Our park is already booked for the entire 2017 winter season before the last season was even over.

Thanks JandC, that's some very useful info. I didn't even think about running the furnace. Wow, we are such newbies. I will check my registers. Thanks for the route info.

Eagleback, thank you. You are right, we got in. I think I will try to book next winter this winter. Just beginning to travel more since retiring. Hard for me to plan so far out. I'm learning.
