Mobile hot spot - who's better Verizon / ATT

Dumb question but why not just use the “Personal Hotspot” function on your phone and buy just a Verizon jet pack/mifi/hotspot device vs. owning a phone, Verizon, & ATT hot spots (which is three plans/devices)?

Because the modem in your phone is not as robust or have as many features and bands it can access for data as a dedicated modem(jet pack or similar) It really depends on what you plan to use it for. Simple emails etc or heavy data intensive applications will determine if the on board modem will fill your needs or not.

We use a Verison router to augment our cell phone hot spot.

Since att cancelled their plan for unlimited on the ToGo system I’m looking into alternatives. Seems all the carriers don’t offer unlimited with some sort of restriction. For what I pay for 5 phones with att I’m not changing phone carriers, with that said I did find a company on the secondary market WiFi mate. They have a SIM card for the ToGo system unlimited 80 a month, no caps no throttling or so they claim. Also considering dumping the ToGo system all together and getting a Netgear router unlocked and use WiFi mate still 80 a month but the Netgear has more bands available. WiFi mate uses t mobile and they are integrating sprint towers into their system.

Once my plan with att / ToGo expires in November this may be worth looking into.
