Lifetime license plates

Here in Missouri, we are offered the permanent tags for $25.00 more than the regular rates. No more visits to the local Mo. location.
Might be good for full timers as well. We got it.
Non transferable.

Here in Montana, that is the only plates you can get on a trailer, horse trailer etc. The cars have to be 11 years old before they become eligible for a permanent tag. Plus coming from California it was a real shock when I got the paperwork from Ca. stating that the tags for one year would be $540. for one year. I was prepared when I went to register the trailer in Montana. Got there ready to write the hefty check and was told that it would be $174. for a permanent plate......Boy was I excited!

Michigan has permanent plates for trailers as well. $300 for the Montana and only good for as long as we own it. New trailer, new plates, another $300

Like Countryfolks said, we get a relatively cheap permanent tag in AR...the catch is we pay 6% sales tax on the RV!

We pay $22.75 a year plus sales tax but don't all states charge sales tax on RVs? I know that PA, NY and FL do.

In Oregon, no sales tax - I'm not saavy on the permanent tag situation, except Veteran's Disability tags - one time, can switch them from tv to rv or vice versa when due.

I'm sitting here weeping! My old truck was $223 this year and the old Montana was $97. Out here you can figure about 10% added to the cost of new equipment the first year for sales tax and license.

No sales tax in Oregon, so I guess we cannot complain. The truck was $54 for 2 years and the Montana $227, just renewed. Though it is a 2955 it is over 30 ft, and that is when the rates go up. I do not know anything about permanent tag and we were not offered that option here.

Ozz, Missouri is also the only state I'm aware of where trucks over a certain size (including 3/4 ton and up) do not have to display a plate on the rear. I guess that's because the bumper is optional on those trucks? It's very odd to see these trucks running around with no rear plate.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Does any one know if South Dakota offers a permanent plate for either the TV or Monty? As I am still on active duty, I get a discount for my plates and only paid $33.00 for each but that will change in a couple of years. I am looking to change my residence to South Dakota. They do not have a state sales tax and their property tax is only 3%.
