2009 Lake Siskiyou Fishin' Fools Derby & Fry

Lake Siskiyou 2009

Fishin' Fools Derby & Fry

Question: "What the heck is a Fishin' Fools Derby & Fry?"
Answer: Well, it's where a bunch of fools get together, hopefully catch fish, cook it up and eat it.

A new event at the 2009 Lake Siskiyou Rally
If the weather is in agreement, we'll have a fishing derby from Friday 8am to Sunday 3pm at the rally.
Winner of the longest fish caught from a boat on, or from the shore of
Lake Siskiyou in that time frame wins a nifty prize. There isn't an "official" start to the derby other than start throwing your poles
into the water on Friday if you want. Doug & Kevin won't even arrive at the rally
until noon, and then they still have to set up the rigs before the wives will release them to fish.

Looking for a respectable judge who can't be bought off with a bottle of hooch
(this lets Dave Anderson off the hook, so to speak)
and no fair going to the grocery store and buying a fish.
Official rules and regulations coming soon.

We'll then have a central fish fry location at dinnertime on Sunday
and everyone is welcome to come by with their dinner plates
and add some fish to their dinners.
If you want, bring your dinners, drinks and chairs to the fish fry location
and we'll have a relaxed, outdoor dinner party.
*** Non-fish eaters also welcome ***
(which is a good thing because the only fish I eat is Pepperidge Farms Goldfish!)[/center]

So get those rod and reels out of storage,
start looking for some worms,
and let's have us a
FISHIN' FOOLS DERBY & FRY!

D and M On The Road-

This sounds like a fun event.

Is there anything you will need for the Fish Fry....Like BBq's?

Also if you'd like we have one of those Easy Up covers that we will have with us if the weather is threatening.

Denise

What's the cost of out-of-state fishing licenses, and is there any senior discount? This could be a make or break issue.

...arghhhh Bob.......... you are making me work!

I posted the 1 day and the 2 day California Fishing License fee and description in the main post above.

They are about the cost of a theater ticket, except these tickets last all day long.

Later on, I'll post where to buy a license. (Lake Siskyou has sold them in the past)

Licenses are available at the campground marina and other locations in town. I have the recreation building reserved for the entire time, so weather permitting we can use that facility and the big BBQ on the deck for cooking, etc.

Doug & Kevin, I believe that you two have fished this lake before, so how about a few tips? What type of lures, bait do you use for this lake. At what depths do you fish? Troll or still fish?

Took me awhile to get this out of Doug..... he's afraid of competition!:

There are rainbow and german brown trout in the lake.

Fishing from the shore is just as good as fishing from a boat.

When fishing from the shore, use green & yellow glittered power bait. The little tackle shop at the marina carries the most successful power bait for the time of season. Or you can pick it up at any fishing shop.

When in a boat, some people troll and some people drift. The best bet for trolling is night crawlers behind flashers. The best for drifting is with salmon eggs or power bait.

There is a 5mph rule on the lake.

Here's to catching alot of fish so we can cook it up and have a Fish Fry!

Just in case Mr. Hatton is trying to throw other fishing fools off track, I'll try to remember to post the weekly fishing report from the local paper between now and rally time. It only comes out once a week (Wednesday) so stay tuned.

No fishing report listed on May 6 due to inclement weather during the previous week.

Sorry, no current fishing report in today's local paper either! Maybe the fish have a pay off agreement with the local reporter? Oh well, the fish hatchery you'll pass on the way in has well stocked pens if you want to take your chances.
