Furrion backup camera

The furrion backup camera is installed on my new 3121RL.
They advertise it can be used inside the RV for security but it is only powered by a 12 volt cigarette lighter adapter. I cannot find a 12 volt plugin inside the RV. Just wondering if there is one on the interior the RV?

You should be able to use a phone charging cable (non iPhone) off of your USB jacks.

Easy way is a 120V to 12V (cigarette lighter plug) transformer.

I think my 7" display uses a 3.5mm x 1.35mm barrel jack, so you could also search for a 120v to 12V with that size barrel jack. Might be a good idea to check the amperage on the fuse in the 12v plug for your display and make sure your output isn't much more than that - probably 1 or 2 amps.

Not sure if you are talking about the actual camera on the (outside) back of your camper, or the monitor you put inside your truck?

If you are talking about the monitor inside your truck, then you'll probably need to get a portable 120v normal plug in household adaptor with a transformer to plug in the 12v DC plug on the Furrion monitor. If your Furrion monitor has a USB plug, then you can use any USB power port, the same as if you plug a phone into.

Now, if you are talking about the camera outside the the camper on the back, you may need to do some re-configuring for power. Maybe your's is different, but mine came pre-wired for the Furrion (outside rear) camera. It's powered ONLY when the truck lights are on. So when the truck is unhitched and unplugged or the lights are off, the camera on the back is off.

So, if yours is set up the same way, you'll need to figure a way to power the camera when the truck lights are out, or you are unhitched.

Then, you'll want a turn off switch somewhere, otherwise the camera will be active all the time, constantly draining against your on-board battery in the trailer.

A simple solution (if yours is powered ONLY when the light of truck are on) is to use a jumper wired between pin #1 and pin #7 on your trailer umbilical cord that plugs into the truck for running lights and brakes. Running a jumper between pin #1 and pin #7 will send power from the trailer battery to the running lights on your camper and then your camera will be on. However, all the other running lights on the outside of your camper will be on also. If you don't mind annoying your neighbor campers all night long, then you could do it this way without doing ANY additional wiring.

Now, if your camper is wired for your observation camera to be turned on and off independent of your truck being hook-up, then you don't have any issues here. Half of your quest is already solved.

As Dutchmen said, jumping pins 1 and 7 on your 7 pin cable will power the cameras, but also the lights. I've tried this and it does work. The "hack" I found online was to use a 15 amp blade style fuse, the same style as the rig uses in the fuse panel, as the jumper.
I don't use it regularly since it keeps the running lights on all night, but it does work.

Thanks for this explanation as I was considering this as an option. Since I am one who wanders why people have so many lights on at night, I’ll need to pass on this idea.

There is a cigarette plug behind the bedroom television on my 2017 3000RL but again, the camera is only powered when the truck lights are on.

Nope. After researching it, I have to hardwire a 12V cigarette adaptor in the interior of the RV. No USB connection on the unit which is a vision s with the rear and side cameras.

Why do they advertise that it can be used inside the RV for security purposes when parked?

Here is what you need. No hardwiring needed.

2022 Montana 3121 Legacy - Furrion Vision system included. I do no intend on using the camera system when traveling, that's what mirrors are for. However because I have the system the instruction show using it as an RV security cameras. Anyone have experience with powering the cameras other than via the trailer power cord or jumping the #1 and #7 pins for constant power. ( that option leaves the running lights on) I have a solar system to charge the batter but not interested in leaving lights on all night. Don't have a need for security just trying to use the assets available if possible. :Looking for alternate 12v DC power options for the 3 cameras. Thanks all
