Timken Bearings

Planning to swap out my bearings when I do maintenance next month. The forum has provided great information for the bearing set at etrailer, and I assumed they were Timken's because that was the recommended brand. The bearings pictured for the #7000 axels with EZ-lube (GS-2125DL) are stamped PEER, part # and China. Where do you find your Timken bearings?

Mine were from morryde. You should be able to find a source by google searches for them. Or maybe another member will chime in with their source.

I'm not going to reenter the discussion of what the brand Timken means today compared to 15 years ago as we've already beat that horse. Just be aware that not all Timken bearings are made in the US of A nowdays ... always check your bearing boxes.

Still Searching

Understanding that they aren't always made in the USA, would it be safe that assume if it had the Timken name on it, but made in China, would still have the Timken specs? Not trying to resurge the USA/China argument, just trying to find a better bearing(s) to install on my trailer.

I'll just put this out and let others answer where they got Timkens. Corporate America does not hold as much good water as it used to concerning conformity to what it once stood for. Take a long look at Boeing right now. They knew there were issues and still produced a product ... I was a Boeing employee for years just for mentioning. Timken is a good bearing ... so is National.

Timken is a premium bearing no matter where it's made which is most likely China. The most important thing is to keep your bearings properly greased with quality high temp grease which seems to be what you are planning to do. There doesn't seem to be a huge problem with the factory bearings which are made in China but the Timken's may give you peace of mind.

If it is actually a Timken bearing, it should be high quality as Timken wouldn't risk their name on poor a quality product. That being said, there are counterfeit bearings on the market, just like a lot of products. These are links that explains what to look for. http://www.hungsenghuat.com/images/h...l_bearings.pdf

I found the Timkens on Amazon. The 25580 bearing with race is 24.37 and the 14125a is 19.27 with race. The reviews say these are made in the U.S.A. This is a total per wheel of 43.64 plus tax. Add about 5.00 per Dexter seal on other web sites and you will be in the neighborhood of 55.00 per wheel or 220.00 for all 4 wheels. Just add quality grease and you are in business.

If you have a NAPA parts store in the area they usually have the complete Timken inner/outer race and bearing along with grease seal on hand. Common use item on many horse trailers, etc

I usually buy Timkens from Rock Auto Parts. So far they have all said Made in USA. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/. You will need to input the needed part number. Other brands such as National, SKF or Fafnir are just as good.

I did buy one from AMAZON as well for a truck, also USA made. Problem with Amazon is that there are also counterfeiters selling if you are buying one of their 'price may be lower' sellers instead of the main company

Rock Auto.com had the best price for races and bearings when I did mine. It was 1/2 the cost of my local NAPA or Advance Auto.

Purchasing Bearings

Don't know why I didn't consider Rock Auto and I really like shopping with them. They had all the bearings, races and seals for about $100 cheaper than Amazon. The grease, cotter pins and lock washers will be coming from etrailer. Until I take the wheel and hub off, I won't know what kind of locking mechanism is installed on the spindle. I just know it has the EZ Lube system. I want to have the parts on hand so there's less down time. Thanks everyone for your help, tips and advice. Between doing the bearing project and replacing the black tank valve this Spring, this should be a great camping season!

A word of Caution on TIMKEN bearings

I live in Canton, OH - TIMKEN World Headquarters. I support local folks, and while I agree many corps have gone sideways...I'd like to think they haven't.

I recently set out to replace the inner and outer wheel bearings and seals on my 3500 Dodge Truck.

Ordered the first set on Amazon and they came as expected the next day. Inspected the product that was sent. Certainly looked like TIMKEN...box and all.

Upon further inspection, I noticed something that was missing. All I buy is TIMKEN.

A number of years ago TIMKEN started placing heavy-duty holographic barcoded decals on thier boxes to fight against counterfeiters. There were no stickers on these boxes. ODD I thought.

Confirmed with TIMKEN that this indeed was an issue. Returned what I ordered off of Amazon and ended up getting them through a local NAPA.

Buyer B Ware!

You will have the normal washer and nut, not a castle nut, and the nut is held in place by a clip that has a flat that engages the flat on the spindle and clips that grab the outside of the nut. http://www.dexterpartsonline.com/product/27-061

Bearing Parts

Thank you for the confirmation and link. Just getting those parts from Dexter and the red bearing grease will save me some $$$. I'll keep them in mind for other parts I may need later.

Hello all,
I put inexpensive China bearings on my old 9000 pound trailer purchased at my local trailer parts supply house (not Timken bearings) and they were discolored (overheated) when I inspected them the next year, and yes they were adjusted and lubricated. I went to a local bearing supplier and got US made Timkens and didn't see that problem again with that trailer. Last spring i purchased Timken USA made bearings at the same supplier for my montana. They are out there if you ask. I am not debating US made or China made, just saying made in the USA was available last year.
