Axles

Can anyone tell me how I can tell what brand of axles my 05 mountaineer has. It came with owners manuals from both Alko and Dexter.

There should be some sort of tag on the axles indicating model and mfgr. The axle rating should be included. Mine has a metal tag on both axles.

If you look closely at the rubber caps over the grease fittings, the name should be embossed in the rubber. Otherwise, crawl under and look for a tag as described above.

The only 05 I checked had "Dexter" stamped in the metal of the axle about mid way between the wheels.

Your 2005 Mountaineer should have Dexter Axles. Keystone has switch from Alko to Dexter. Your salesman should have gone through all the paperwork with you and tossed the information which diod not pertain to a 2005 Mountaineer.

I believe all 2005 have Dexter axles. At the Factory tour last September they were already using them on all of their units. I think they had been doing that for some time.

I would think that you should be able to call either your dealer or Keystone Customer Service and find out. All of our units are on record there by number.

I know they're using Dexter now in the Montana but am not sure about the Mountaineer. The factory service center guy told me Keystone still buys Alko axles but doesn't use them in the Montana any more. I'm not sure if he was including Mountaineer in that statement or not.

Mine came with Dexter and Alko booklets too. I crawled under the RV and looked at the axle. It had Dexter stanmped on it.

I'll check the rubber caps first, and if not there I guess I'll crawl underneath whenever it stops raining or snowing. But I don't think thats going to happen in the near future.

Another question. Did everyone who ordered thier unit get a copy of a build sheet or something listing everything that came on thier unit? I didn't. I had to go through the TT with a copy of the order sheet. Is this something a dealer normally gives you or do you need to ask for it. My '99 Jayco came with a check list in the owners manual packet from the factory with brand names, model #'s and serial #'s. It was like a quality control sheet.

My 2003 Montana had a "built sheet" in it with all the data you mentioned. However, since I bought preowned, I don't know its origin.

Our 2005 3400RL, built in July, had Dexter axles. I heard the same thing at the rally that Patty did, the switch was made to Dexter axles.
