50 amp to 30 amp adapter

I have a Montana 3255RL and it has a 50 amp male socket on the back where the 50 amp cord ;lugs in and of course on the other end if a regular 50 amp male plug.

My problem is that I need a 30 amp plug on the other end so I wanted to make an adapter. I know I can buy one but at Dusty's who is the closest to me they want over $100 for it and it consists of just a short piece of cable and a socket and plug.

I bought everything I thought I would need but the female 50 amp socket that will plug into the trailer outlet does not have the ground plate on the side of it. I took apart a regular adapter at Dusty's and it simply straps the two hot legs together and then straps the green wire "ground" with the white wires "neutral."

However the ground is on the side of the socket on the trailer and I can't find a female plug to go into it that has the ground on the side as the adapter does.

Has anyone tried this? Am I going to be forced to but the darn thing anyhow?

The reason I want one is that the campground we spend the summer at only offers a 30 amp service with a 30 amp socket. And of course the smaller cable is much lighter. I plan to make the adapter about 10 - 12 inches long and use a 30' extension I have for my regular 30 amp cord that was on my other trailer.

Can anyone help me??? Do you all just bite the bullett and get the regular adapter?
