CHANGE-OUT 3 STEPS TO 4 STEP

We were recently at a RV show and noticed that some of the newer RV's are equiped with 4 entrance steps rather than the 3 steps we have on our 2011 Monty.
Does anyone know if it's possible to have our current strps replaced with the new 4 step unit.
Any idea on cost.

Thanks

Larry,
We have a 2010 3455 and replaced the 3 step with a 4 step. The dealer ordered it for us and was $192.75. I'm not positive, but I think it came from Lippert.

I have a 3 step on the exterior, then two steps at the entry. I don't seem to notice any height difference between any of these steps and they seem to be as high as the three steps to enter the front of the rig.

You just might watch out on the step habit. I have and have seen plenty of other people misstep and trip up a bit when the step heights are inconsistent. I would only worry about the 5 steps to enter the rig in case the bottom four are changed out and if their height was different than the two fixed steps in the rig entry.

If you don't have any steps in the rig entry and the new four steps get you from the ground up to the trailer floor then you probably don't have anything to worry about.

Just something to consider.

I think that's correct. Lippert is now making a replacement 4 step model.

When we bought our 2011 it had a 3 step unit. Dealer switched it out with a 4 step unit from a 2012 model as part of our purchase deal rather than give us different tires. The steps are closer together by about an inch, and in some unleveled sights the bottom step can actually rest on the ground. The mounting holes and supports were a little different. I was able to redrill the mounting holes 1 inch higher to lessen the distance between the top step and the threshold. I have not quite perfected the lower rear supports yet. If I had access to a welder it would have been done months ago. DW really likes the 4 step unit much better because of her back and hip problems.

Thanks everyone for the help. We'll checkout Lippert and get the new stairs.
I take it that the switch out of the stairs would be something that the average handy man could do himself.

Larry,
Taking out the bolts and removing the old steps is easy. In installing the new steps, you'll need a way to support them to align the bolts (you'll need the same support to remove the steps). They are heavy. As woodtic says, unless you establish new holes, the top step has a slightly larger rise than the others. It has worked for us without drilling.

Hope that helps

Yep easy swap, the hole on ours matched up exactly, Lippert. Dealer ordered, and took the original in trade. I installed, takes longer to loosen alittle skirting then the install itself. I used a motorcycle jack, there is alittle weight to deal with, but its very doable. Great mod.
