50 Amp RV Box Adapter

Does anyone have experience with the box adapters that CW sells (about $60, I believe). I'm talking about the 50 amp adapter box with (2) 30 amp pigtails that plug into the park's (2) 30 amp or 30/20 amp receptacles. The box also has a 50 amp for the RV to plug into.

I read the buyers responses on the CW site - some good, some bad. I've also seen a couple of rigs using them, but didn't have a chance to talk to them. I'm using a 50 -> 30 amp dogbone right now, but have gone thru 2 of them in the last 8 months (corrosion, etc.) that have caused CB's to pop in the rig (especially the micro/convection oven).

It seems like the ideal solution to get 50 amps all the time, if it works as designed...

Logically it should work. I talked to some electrical guys and they confirmed the design. 220-volts is just two 110-volt lines coming into the same plug and using one common and one ground. When it hits your convertor, it just splits the 50-amp, 220-volts into two 110/120 lines with one going through a 30 amp breaker and the other going through a 20 amp breaker.

The design is great. I have one and have used it several times in some of the old city and county parks. Used it once in an RV park in Mississippi. A note to be concerned about: This adapter will not work if plugged into a GFI receptacle. Most of the new parks and many that have upgraded their wiring have GFI receptacles on their 15/20 amp power. Other than these types of installations, the adapter works fine.:-)
