I travel with a full tank. I do full because there is less kinetic energy than a sloshing partial tank. IMHO, that and I know the water quality.

I try to have a full tank when going to a boondocking site. Particularly Quartzsite where the water is lousy. And the less sloshing. along with a diminished pin weight, doesn't hurt.

Normally we carry about 20 gallons for washing and flushing.
Boondocking we try to fill up before we arrive.
Gas stations, truck stops, rest areas. Campendium is good for looking up places to fill.
On the other hand...
We have been to places (FHU) where the water is bad. We were grateful we had some water with us and wished we had more.

Rarely towed full, but always with enough to flush toilet while traveling. We always used our bathroom while traveling rather than public restrooms along the highway.

Since we don't boon dock, the answer is "no." I very seldom, VERY seldom, travel with a full tank of water. Our destination points always have water somewhere to fill up with.
I'm in line with Cat320 above, at 8.3 pounds a gallon, why carry that much weight with it's not needed? I carry just enough to flush the toilet when traveling between destination points.

I also aim to have 5-10 gallons on the road for flushing. Rarely boondock, so don't worry about that. Also, we don't drink park water - only gallon jugs from stores. And at around 700 different campgrounds over 18 years I only had one (maybe 2?) that had rusty or dirty water from the park.
