First mishap on my 2015

Dang, my first breakage as we went over some Nasty Construction roads on the Oregon Coast got to my Resort and opened up the back door and my wife could see food spilled on the floor out of the Pantry OH OH...the shelves and front fascia(lips) collapsed and dumped everything they were only secured with Staples (LAME) ) so we took everything out and I installed L Brackets under the Fascia where it connects to the side supports as there is a lot of weight with can foods etc.. on those shelves and put more screws in and Now better than new...SOOOO anybody with a 3735MK with the huge pantry in back fair warning put some L brackets under the side supports and front fascia for more support

Jimmy: I am thinking this situation will not be limited to the 3735 but am not really sure. Did the shelves themselves actually break in two or just come off their mounts against the wall?

Our early 3610 has the large wide pantry and we have always wondered how those particle board shelves might hold up with all the weight of our canned goods etc. We have maybe 1/2 inch b 1/2 inch pieces of wood(rails) fastened to the walls on the two sides and back that tells shelves rest on.

The shelf itself did not break in two it was the front lip (fascia) that holds the shelf up(along with the side supports) and stops things from falling forward that pulled out and that in turn left the thin plywood shelf(it's not even particle board) to sag and everything fell down and you are right DarMar it could apply to all that have a Pantry, and those support wood strips underneath on ea side came loose as well and I put more screws in them too and now it is rock solid

We have a large pantry in our 2015, but keystone put no edges on the shelves, so when the door is oped, everything falls out. I added edges and works good now. Shelves themselves seem pretty sturdy. Again, ours was an early 2015 before they made what we consider negative changes.

Keystone does seem to have a love affair with staples.

We have a nice pantry on our new 3160 RL LE. Door can't open (not very much) with the slide in the travel position. One of the first things I do is to make sure the pantry door did not accidentally open during travel. Don't want to damage it when the slide goes out. As for a mess the worst thing I had was a couple of cans of Pringles roll out when I opened the door. We did put the RV shelf liner on all the shelves which I think helps some. Maybe I will look into installing edges like Mike did. Maybe some pictures would help if you could share your projects end results.

As usual, too much cheap material and shoddy construction. Good thing so many of us are handy in repairing all the problems we encounter.

Jimmy thanks for posting the pictures. I might have to do something similar. I think my door has a glass insert and the shelf edges could help protect it along with having less mess or a hole in the linoleum cause from the edge of a can.

Jimmy: That looks like the identical shelf/support system in our 3610 pantry. Off to the hardware store we go for reenforcements.

The staples they use are pitiful. All the shelves in our Ardmore on our 13 402 collapsed when the staples pulled out of the wall panel. A few screws and fixed. Same on the shelving on the end of the counter. Staples pulled out of the wall panel and shelves collapsed. Screws to the rescue.

This just in yesterday. The latch that holds up the front compartment door in the overhang fell down and just missed my head. The latch is just screwed into the overhang plastic with nothing behind it. Super glue and fatter screws to the rescue.

I had some people laugh about me carrying power tools, compressor and air nailer/staple gun. I've used all the tools putting our rig back together several times. I can't even guess what it would have cost, both time and money, to have someone else do the repairs. Besides doing repairs, I can also do mods when there is a need. Between getting ideas and advise on this forum, for both repairs and mods, makes this site one of the most important tools in the box.

As things break, and when you make the repairs, the entire rig gets stronger. Hopefully, as the roads continue to deteriorate, we can make these rigs hold together better as we make repairs.

It is a shame that we have to do that and many like my self are not as handy as others and some are physically unable to do that. We are a little of both. We do carry a wide array of spare parts, screws, Gorilla tape, super glue, etc.

On a good note. We had our dealer address a list of other issues while the Montana was in for tank replacement among them were the slides. We did not like the way the main slide came in and the noises from the some of the others .We asked them to check out the slide operation and repair as necessary.

My slides are whisper quiet. The sound of the motor is the only sound we can hear. The slides just glide in and out. Notation on the repair order just says checked, adjusted and lubricated slides per customer request. Slide operation normal. The service center did the same on our 06 3400 at a rally the second year We had it and they were also whisper quiet for the remaining 5 years we had it.

We are pretty much out of the travel mode this summer due to medical issues and the Montana will probably not leave the driveway this summer. We have a big "to do"list and one item is to replace every dinky staple that I can with screws. We have already reinforced the shelves. We are replacing the interior lighting with LED lighting and that is about half done. This top of the line, best you can buy Big Sky came OEM with those dome lights and 921 bulbs.

I hope this is the end of the "things that break" era. The BIG sky is 3 years old this month and we have had over 4,000.00 in failures. Warranty and
Service plans covered most all of the expense.
