Dealer should have options

Given today's supply and demand market, I would think the dealer would not need any deposit. Even if it came in at order price and you changed your mind he could put it on his lot at a higher price and still sell quickly.

I never said the dealer shouldn’t return his deposit. In fact that would be good business.

The supply chain is broken

If this is the Rig you really want and it’s a dealer you want to use for service and warranty work, you might want to add a simple paragraph to the contract giving you the ability to cancel the contract and receive 100% of your deposit back if the price is higher than the one quoted on the contract.
I would get the advice of a lawyer to make sure the wording is correct.
Also, 5% deposit would seem more reasonable.
Just about every piece and part the manufacture buys to build the rig has gone up in price, so naturally, this increase is added to the cost of the rig to the dealer.
I just attended the Tampa show to buy a new rig. Holy cow, the prices have gone way up. I’ve decided to wait and buy a slightly used one and avoid the issue you are facing.
Best of luck to you in your search.

The only thing I can offer, as I'm coming up on the 1 year anniversary of the purchase of our 3791RD, I would find another dealer. My original stop was Lazy Days in Tampa because I live in Florida. I knew what I wanted so I asked for them to quote me on the build. They required a $5k NON-REFUNDABLE deposit to ORDER my unit. They did have one similar to what I wanted in route from the manufacturer as an inventory unit. When I tried to negotiate the price on that specific in-coming unit they told me, and I quote, "The price we quoted is the price, it's a sellers market, we'll sell its to someone else". Obviously I shopped elsewhere. I found a dealer in Tennessee (Cookeville RV and Marine) that required the same $5K non refundable deposit on special orders BUT DEFINITELY NO CHANGE IN PRICE CLAUSE. By the way I saved $11k over the Lazy Days price. As others mentioned, sometimes it pays to travel somewhere to get better deals.
Walkaway!!! While I agree that it's a sellers market since the start of this whole pandemic thingy, you can still find honest dealers out there. Just my 2 cents

I don’t see where the OP said anything about a $15000 deposit. He said the total price could change 2-5% on delivery. He needs to first read the contract. Then decide what he wants to do. The dealer should be able to refund the deposit as they could easily sell the unit. Todays market cannot be compared to markets prior to 2021, or 2022. Prior markets did not have to deal with the covid pandemic, and supply chain issues. The manufacturers don't know what their true costs will be until the week of production. They are getting cost increases daily on various components. The omicron variant as a second wave of covid just knocked the supply chain for a second setback. With that said, you might shop around with other dealers to see what their price practices are compared to the dealer you are currently talking to. You might be better off buying something already in inventory, or you might have to deal with a pricing situation that is likely to be higher than first quoted. Best to shop around and get educated on the current market and pricing policies. How someone bought an RV even 3years ago has NO relevance to the market today. We are NOT in a stable market situation. The vast majority of the inflation we deal with today is covid and oil price related. The OP may find similar situations at other dealers. Only one way to find out is to shop around.

We had a very similar situation and we weren’t informed until 3 days after we traded in our old rig and made a cash deposit. We contacted Forest River because we were looking at one of their rigs and never got a specific answer but got enough of an answer to know that it happens. So we decided to buy a rig they had on site. We were lucky to find one that we liked and we didn’t lose anything. Not much of an answer sorry but it worked for us. It’s a shame, though, that this type of thing goes on when you have a signed paper with the price you agreed upon.

Yea, what he said, to an extent. I agree with 95% of this post with the exception regarding what the manufacture knows or doesn't know about his pricing. Trust me they are in the business to make money, their pricing already reflects a healthy profit margin. If the prices change during the manufacturing process, those are challenges and risk that a company takes just being in business. You SHOULD NOT be extending that risk to the consumer. As an example, if the prices happen to go DOWN during the manufacturing process do they give the consumer a break in the quoted price? I think not, you'll pay what you signed for!

You can be sure that additional markup that "may" be added, will be added even if it wasn't the manufacturer.
If a dealer tries to do this, contact the state attorney general's office, I doubt it's legal.

If you sign a contract accepting potential changes you have nothing to complain about.
