Factory Solar Panel Connection

I just purchased a 2015 3791RD and noticed that there is a external connection for a solar panel in the water/tv outside connection compartment. Does this mean all I need to purchase is a solar panel and wire it to that plug, or is there more to this?

Have just installed a solar system I think that is just a small portion of a good system. You will need a charge controller and breaker system along with a combiner box if adding more the 1 panel.. Then there is the question of if the cable is sized for your needs.. I am sure someone will come along with a lot more info about this topic... I love our system as we have been running it since the first of January without any need for shore power.

Donald,

It is a marketing gimmick. Wires go from there to battery with a 10 Amp fuse. You can only use small 12 Volt panels, there is no solar controller in the circuit. I took the connector out and put my own in for connecting a panel. See my blog below.

Basically for real solar you're better off without a factory set up. Low bidder on everything isn't what you want or need. Large wire, good controller etc.
