AB Switch

We have a 2003 3295RK. I want to install an AB switch so we can shut off the bedroom speakers. We have a RCA rs1285 stereo. How do I get it out?
Thanks in advance!

Mike these things are usually screwed in, we have similar unit, etc. Al did a AB switch install, for the life of me I cannot remember where the screws are, but look under the radio cabinet (like under the cupboard and look UPPPPPPP) and look in the cupboards on both sides of the unit. Unscrew, and wiggle away and it should come out.

this is what ours switch looks like, finished, installed:

We did ours around July of 2004, you might be able to find a post about it by searching the archives???? I had the photo reduced, cannot find on our web pages, so, my ole tired out brain is telling me I posted here at MOC.

Good luck with your improvement.

Carol

Thanks Carol. I did unscrew the bottom shelf (4 screws) and the shelf still would not come off the wall. I didn't want to put a lot of presure on it for fear of tearing wall paper or worse. Will try it again.
Thanks again!

suggestion. Open up the cabinets. and look up against the wall facing the stereo. With a strong flashlight you may see horizontal screws (into the stereo) I pulled mine a few years ago and made this modification. I used a A/B, A + B surface mount switch that I had from radio shack. While I was in there I uncoiled the FM antenna and drilled two small holes in each side of the cabinets and ran the antenna inside the back wall of the cabinets. I used thumb tacks to hold the ends of the antenna tight.

Mike,

Chris is correct, at least on our unit. Al told me the screws were INSIDE the cupboard door, which was the second option I had listed Our switch like Chris' came from Radio Shack.

I found them! Up against the front, inside the cabinet. Didn't stick my head in far enough the first couple of times. Debbie has to find the milk for me in the refridgerator also. Thank you both!

Congrats Mike. You found them. You know we women have a saying about you men not being able to find things. I learned it from my mom who use to say it to my dad. She would tell him that he couldn't find his butt with both hands! Paul has that very same syndrome. I think it must be a man's disease...But thats ok, just remember thats what we are here for. To guide and assist!
