Possibly a silly question

While doing my annual Spring maintenance checklist, I've noticed the axle(s) jump and a loud bang as I lower the trailer back onto it's wheels. I seem to recall it doing this before, however, after seeing my Brother in-law lose a wet bolt and trying to fix it at a campground. I'm paying more attention to my suspension components. I now carry spare wet bolts, just in case. FYI; I did just install the X-factor crossbeams, would that have anything to do with it?

Also......

Had my wife work the controls so I could get a better look at the situation. As the trailer is being lowered the links that the wet bolts go through, pivot, thus making the loud bang. Is this normal? Is this the start to a problem? The wet bolts have been lubed, so I know it isn't a dry/friction sort of thing. Don't usually have all four wheels off the ground, so this isn't something I experience often.

That’s totally normal. It only happens when you take all the weight off of the axles. The axles sag & the shackles invert themselves under the weight of the axles. When you lower the weight back down onto the axles, the shackles return to their normal positions. Nothing to worry about.

Thank you

I was really hoping that was the case. Very reasonable explanation for what I was seeing. Thanks again.

If they don't move back to their proper position, you should be able to use a pry bar to flip them. If you don't, the axles will not be aligned properly.

You bet. Email me at mike591475@yahoo.com and I'll send it to you. Not sure if I got the original from this forum or Googled it, but I modified it a bit for my specific trailer.
