WARNING - Bulbs to Large!!!

After we picked up our new 2012 Montana 3100RL 3 weeks ago we noticed that the light fixture over the dining table was VERY warm. I opened it and found that the factory had installed 2 - 60 watt light bulbs in it and it is only rated for 2- 40 watt bulbs MAX. The reflective coating above the bulbs was already beginning to burn through and it wouldn't have been long before it overheated and might have cause a fire!

Everyone needs to check their light fixtures and make sure that they installed the PROPER SIZE light bulbs in there! This could have been real disasterous if I hadn't noticed it!

Good catch! If you want to save heat and energy cost go to LED bulbs. I have done it for all inside lighting.

Good catch!
I'm saving my "mad money" for all LED in the RV.

For our 110 volt fixture over the dining table we installed CF bulbs.
LEDs are going into our 12 volt fixtures.

Funny thing about power ratings. I believe it's the usage ratings they are talking about. For example, when one is using CF bulbs rated for 40 watts of light, these are using way less electricity to do so, since CFs are so much more efficient.

Look for the power rating, not the light intensity rating. I find that if I put a 40 w CF it does not seem like it is as bright as a 40 w incandescent. I often install a 100 w CF and it still uses a lot less electricity and provides more light.

Such is technology. Be careful what you use and know how to read the numerous bulb ratings. Now if the trailer folks can learn this you won't be having any fires.
