Lubricating (and adjusting??) the B/R slide!

Maybe I need to be educated on this but when the slides are in wouldn’t the pistons be submerged in the hydraulic fluid the whole time it’s in. In other words wouldn’t it lubricate itself each time the slides go in?

Yes, but (there's always a but!) when you run them back out, if the seals are good, that oil gets wiped off. Hence the idea of lubing them if they are extended for long periods of time.

Since you had the bed apart, does it look like you could lower the board under the bed for more storage room? We have about 6" of storage under there and wondered if it could be increased.

I too have several years background in hydraulics ... I do agree with above posts about occasionally lubing the living room and kitchen slide cylinder shafts as they are exposed to weather. I don't agree with worring about lubing the bedroom slide shaft. It is constantly enclosed in the same environment as the persons inside the fiver ... it's never exposed to the outside elements. The minimal gain here doesn't constitute what it takes to take the bed frame apart to get to the cylinder. As far as squaring up the bedroom slide to the fiver exterior wall (right to left) ... you can either shim the steel plate that the cylinder pushes against or remove the fastners holding the cylinder barrel end to the floor and ever so slightly adjust that end and reinstall the fastners in new holes. I've been in on this once ... it doesn't take very much to make a huge difference.
