Help- Our first trip / Post retirement

As I have mentioned before I will be retiring on March 31st after 32 years with the same company. Linda and I are planning to take a trip east from Washington State and follow the same route that Steve and Vicki took when they made their trip out west. We will be going the opposite direction. When we come back to Washington we have been talking about coming back on the Canadian highway #1. We will be leaving Washington in mid May and will be coming back through Canada in late June or early July. My question is have any of you traveled highway 1 during this time of year and what was it like like? Our other option is to return across the northern route of the USA.
