Age Of Tires

This information may be common knowledge to folks that are experienced RVers, but being relatively new, it was new to me and I found it interesting.

In an answer to a question in my RVAA newsletter, it was stated that the tires should be closely monitored five years from the date of manufacture for signs of deterioration. Only if you haven't worn them out prior to this birthday, no doubt.

"To confirm the age of your tires, check the DOT number located on the side of the tire.
If your tires were purchased prior to January 1, 2000, the last three digits of the DOT number signify the week and year the tire was manufactured. For example, DOT3F25W1198 means the tire was manufactured in the 19th week of 1998. Tires manufactured after January 1, 2000 use the last four digits of the DOT number to represent the manufacture week and year. For example, DOTTMJ9YXPLW1800 means the tire was manufactured in the 18th week of 2000."
