Hard question to answer without knowing how they've been maintained. If they've been well maintained and hold a charge okay you probably don't have to replace them. I know that tires need to be replaced based on age, but I don't know that the same rule applies to batteries.

However, that said, I replaced my motorcycle battery after 4 years even though it was holding a charge and doing okay -- I just didn't want to be caught out somewhere and not have the bike start. The coach batteries in our RV may not be as critical as far as leaving you stranded since I could always jump from my TV.

I think I'd do voltage tests and if they are holding okay I wouldn't replace them until they started showing signs of age/trouble.

Then again, if money isn't that tight, it might be worth your piece of mind to just replace them if you're starting to worry about them.

I replaced our batteries in late 2014 with the next size up, group 24 up to group 27, RV/Marine maintenance free batteries, and we full time, only occasionally boondock, and they are still working as new. I have not seen any indication that there is a need to replace them.

Bill,

Depends on how you use your rig and what kind of battery bank you have. If you don't boondock, I would keep them until you start to have trouble.

In our old 98 salem, we had 4 batteries all walmart group 27. 2 were 10 years old and 2 were 7 yrs. Finally replaced all 4 as the two older ones wouldn't hold a charge long. The other two were OK, just wanted them the same age.The key to longevity for ME, was keeping them topped off with a small solar charger. And of course maintenance!!
