KeyTV with Directv

Can anyone tell me what is needed to get KeyTV to work with Directv?

Cannot find anything in search that answers how it works with Directv and exactly what is needed to be able to use it.

Thanks
Jack

I do not have KeyTV in my unit and I use Dish not DirecTv. I used the google search above right to search the forum for “KeyTV with Dish” and got lots of results. I read thru the first first thread listed below and in summary…
Don’t go thru KeyTV - run your coax directly from the exterior dish/antenna/tailgater to the back of your DirecTV black box.

In my case (similar to your situation) my Tailgater is powered using low power thru the coax. There are several low-cost splitters built into my factory wiring and they prevent the low power from getting thru to my tailgater. If you have a dish/antenna that plugs in to an exterior power outlet itself - it will likely work to push signal thru the OEM splitters.

I ran my coax thru a nearby window for a couple of years, then I rigged a coax pigtail thru the back of the slide behind the TV and drops down thru the slide out wire loom. The pigtail is attached to my Wally black box. I hook my tailgater up to the pigtail under the slide. No more wires going from the window to the TV.

Suposedly, DirecTV works with the KeyTV system, if you have a SWM setup. Look in the File section for the Key TV manuals.

I used DTV in my 2021 Montana for 3 years. Key TV is a headache you don’t need. I drilled two holes beneath my TV and ran 2 coax from the DTV box through the holes. I used silicone to seal the holes. Then when setting up I connected the coax from the dish to the ones I ran through the holes. The 2 coax sticking through the two holes were in a place that did not interfere with the slide operation and I never had to worry about KeyTV.

How did you determine the best place to drill for the coax?

DirecTV with Key TV works fine for me. I just installed a Winegard DirecTV Trav'ler sat antenna on our 2024 3123RL. I ran six feet of RG-6 coax from the base mount to the Sat Connector input on the Winegard 360. I then connected my Genie2 to the Sat connector behind the 50" TV. Make sure to connect the blue Key TV Sat coax in the water box. I ran the six-wire control cable through a hole in the roof I drilled down to our Pantry for the Control Box and connected it to an inverted outlet in the pantry

Key TV

Similar experience as others. A satellite TV expert told me that Key TV will not give a good signal. I bypass my splitter and connect directly to the Tailgater.

I disconnected behind the splitter and drilled a hole just below the splitter, connected directly to the cable.

I don't understand why this problem has not been resolved.

My “fireplace” is below my tv. I removed it and looked in the space behind it and determined there were no cables to worry about drilling into in or below the space. My tuner was a two channel tuner so I needed the two coaxes. Some only require one coax but it appeared that everyone was having issues with the Key tv so I didn’t bother to mess with it. Have since abandoned DTV and gone with streaming using Starlink which I think is the best thing to hit RVing in years.

We have Dish. Never coukd get it to work with the rigs coax wiring. Ran the cord out the window for years. Finally drilled a hole in the back wall and put a Coax fitting on the outside wall.
Be careful, there is electrical and tail light wiring running through the wall.

Jann, do you have a Winegard DirecTV Trav'ler sat antenna on your roof? See my post below your question on 8/14/2024. DirecTV worked fine for me. Please ask me anything about it.
