Battery saga continues.

Sorry guys I need some more help. I got 2 new deep cycle batteries I guess they are size 31..? Deep cycle lead acid. Got them from battery’s plus 129.00 each. Anyway, I have them hooked up in a series and put a battery charger on it while hooked up to the coach. So after about 7 hours of charging I tried to open the hydraulic slides and the system shut down and re booted.

I plugged in the coach to shore power and everything worked as it should no problems.

I’m at a loss as to what’s wrong. Do I need to let them charge for several days since they are new..? Maybe I’m being impatient..? Just let the coach charge them?

These are the batteries I installed they recommended them as long as I had the space and I did.

You need a 80 amp relay for the hydraulic pump motor. Do a search on this site and you will find everything you need to know.

The thing is... the power is still going through your batteries even when your 5th is hooked up to land power. I’d check all the battery grounds to the 5th frame.

aren't the group 31 batteries 12V? If so, I assume you meant hooked in parallel. Otherwise I would think you fried some stuff.

Checked the grounds all are tight surprising. I do have some in-line fuses I think this is what you are talking about replacing. Couldn’t I put in a 80amp fuse..?

Is it a replacement for what’s already there..? It seems my 2018 3920 is a little different from some of the pictures I have seen. Is this breaker by the hydraulic resovior ? I’ll attach a photo. Mine seems to have quite a few wires going into it.

Ok guys I have been doing a lot of trying to figure out where this breaker is. I must admit I can do brakes, oil changes, alternators, belts, a lot of basic car maintenance. But I have never seen a breaker that looked like this. I thought it was just a connection point nothing special.

I will attach a photo with the breaker I think needs to be replaced hopefully I’m on the same page as you guys. Sorry if I made this more confusing then it actually is. My first 5th wheel so it’s a learning curve!!

Questions about computers WiFi, LAN, networks I’m your guy, knowing that is a breaker I’m not your guy lol

I believe the one you have circled is the one you want to replace but I will let someone else comment that has the same make and model as yours as not all rv's look alike on there wiring. You can get the 80 amp breaker at Amazon for around 30-35 bucks. Good Luck.

I think it is too since the red cable going out of the picture is going to the pump. Why didn’t they just install this at the factory..? I’m really confused on why it works when plugged in but not on battery...?

When you are on shore power the voltage drop isn't as much as as the batteries alone. This cause the amps it increase. Power equals voltage times amps.

1. are your batteries like this? if 12 volt batteries. http://www.batterytender.com/connect...el-one-charger
2. when you purchased the batteries they should have already been charged.
3. did you have this problem before you installed the new batteries?
4. for the fun of it replace the 2 batteries with another battery and try it.

I’ll attach a photo of the batteries before I put the new ones in.

I had this problem with the other batteries. CW drained the batteries down to zero and they were not holding a charge for longer then a few days so I got new ones.

a couple things based on the picture. First is the connecting wires to the left battery look undersized (to small a gauge wire). The other issue is the way it is connected, isn't quite correct as the positive to the trailer should come from one battery and the negative from the other. This ensures even draw and charge across the battery. See info/diagrams in attached article http://www.solarray.com/TechGuides/WireDiagrams_T.php

Last2die, I don't know if this is causing your problem, but the black and white wires connecting your secondary battery to the primary battery are woefully inadequate! Those cables should be at least as large as the ones coming off the primary battery. You can pick up some proper cables at most any auto parts store.
Well it looks like mjammersc beat me to it

WOW this is blowing my mind, as my wife tells me, "then how was it working before?" yeah I just look at her and say.... well nothing. LOL

I did change over the positive to the other battery and tried it, it didn't work upon reset of the system again battery percentage was 11.3, at that point I just plugged it back in as putting the slides back in would have taken forever.

I will be picking up the new 80amp breaker, and I will also pick up to new battery cables to match the thickness of the existing.

Im really getting annoyed at CW this dang thing is only 6 months old !!!

Here is a new picture of the batteries and the positive terminal moved to the other battery. Thank you for the advise. I’m really hoping the new breaker and cables solves this problem and the new batteries are not ruined.

You might try seeing how it does when hooked up to the pigtail on your truck with shore power disconnected. If it works that way I would then take the batteries to an auto parts store and have them tested. You could also test the circuit breaker with a volt meter while someone operates the slide. If your voltage goes to zero than the circuit breaker is bad. If the voltage drops substantially but does not go to zero than you may have a bad connection somewhere.

First ... you need to wire those 12 volt batteries correctly.. the existing white and black wires WILl NOT work..

Go to wally world or any auto parts place and get two battery cable wires same size as large ones and only get the length needed...

You posted a pic of a connection in the hyd pump area...leave that alone...it is the dual polarity solenoid and has nothing to do with your current issue..

Replace battery cables first and yank off those tow 40 amp resettable breakers in the battery compartment. Replace with 80 amp breaker

Fuses WILL not work...

If you aren’t able to do this then find someone who can help you

And if it were me I have a piece of the service managers behind for allowing your RV out of the lot with those batteries wired like that...He should know better and the idiot that wired the batteries needs to be let go

Wire your batteries like in this pic...with new heavier cables as stated above
