Need a little help
Towed our new 2021 3121RL 250 miles to RV park near home, got all hooked up and the heatpump wouldn't run (furnace would kick on instead). Had time to try troubleshooting yesterday and breaker was tripped. Checked all terminals in breaker panel - none were loose, turned unit off via iNCommand and tried to reset breaker which sparked like a dead short. Opened access panel to control board on the unit on roof to look for any loose connection that could be grounding out, found none. Called in to Keystone for warranty and am trying to get a mobile tech out (Friday afternoon and Saturday this would be tough).
Thought today I might go over and check the breaker. Has anyone had a breaker fail and throw a spark when trying to reset? I usually find failed breakers to just feel loose in the throw.
Suggestions welcomed.
Thanks

yes sounds like a dead short, breaker only kicks on short or to much load. only thing i think you could do is remove the cover on the ac unit and see if you can see anything definitely wrong if not isolate the wire to the breaker then see if it holds, this is just to check if it is good back to the breaker. could be a bad capacitor maybe also . if you are not comfortable working with electric better off letting a tech do it. maybe under warranty but still a pain in the %$^#
good luck let us know if you can when you get it.

Regardless, if removing the panel from the breaker/converter front, unplug the camper unbiblical cord from shore power so there's no possibility of getting a shock! Just a suggestion.

Al,
Very comfortable with electricity, both AC and DC. Done major work in both on boats and houses. Tested continuity from load terminal on breaker (breaker off) to ground and had continuity - definite short). Got a tech out on Saturday (to CMA for warranty claim). He isolated the unit with a test rig and that shorted as well. He believes the issue is in the controller board, this foots with the issue we had during inspection last week which the dealer tech supposedly fixed (it did work after he was done).
Mobile tech is going to work with Airxcel to get a new board, says they may want him to do more troubleshooting with him over the phone. We'll see. I'll post more as I learn more.
