50 Amp Panel to Pin Box Plug for Generator
I have wire run from 50 amp panel to the pin box for a receptacle to plug the generator into from the bed of the truck. The generator 4500 watt generator has a 30 amp receptacle. The 50 amp breaker in the rv panel takes two hots from the original 50 amp service to each breaker. Now that I will only have one hot coming from the generator, does anyone just split the one 120 leg into two, and connect one on each of the 50 amp breakers? TIA for your replies.

That's exactly how a dogbone works, when running a 50 amp trailer from a 30 amp power source. You will only get 30 amps of power total instead of 100 amps like when connected to a true 50 amp source.

Just curious, are you putting in a transfer switch somewhere along the line?

What one (make/model) did you install?

Sorry for delay, I must have overlooked it. Hopefully the pic will attach. But I have a DIN Rail mounted with my battery disconnect and thought that I would get one that mounts on it too, since Din rail products are 10 times smaller than conventional electrical devices. But if I did it again, I think I would just go with a auto transfer switch. I was thinking they cost more than they do.

I used this manual transfer switch and have been really happy with it. Very straight forward and simple. Though I think I paid $60 less for it 2 years ago. We've actually found that we use our front power hook up a lot more often then our factory installed rear one.
