Wondering What if - Filling Fresh Tank

Planning to do some boondocking an I'm wondering if, when I'm filling my fresh water tank from a 5-gallon jug, I can use my on board water pump and winterizing inlet. I'm guessing I'd need to leave the valve to the tank open, if that's still possible. I'm trying to avoid having to buy and carry along a transfer pump.

Absolutely you can do it that way. Here's a little "tip" for you, if your water heater ever fails and you REALLY are desperate for a warm shower.

Heat up a bucket of water on your gas stove. Now put your water heater in by-pass. Hook up your hose for winterizing and use the hot water from the bucket instead of antifreeze. Now, turn on the water pump and go take your shower. Of course, you will have only 1 bucket of warm water. But, that's enough for a very conservative Navy shower with WARM water!

You can add water to your fresh water tank the same way. Attach your outside shower hose to the fresh water garden hose hook up and flip the valve to "fill". Now turn on your outside shower. It will pump the water into your fresh water tank.

That would work with a gravity fill water fill system, but if your camper is filled by connecting a garden hose and then put it under pressure, that hand pump will never work. It can't even be attached to the hose connection.
