New England Trip

[The Old Fogies]

We're looking at a trip up to teh New England States. Was wondering what time of the year would be best. Also some recommendations on campsites and place to must see.

WE are leaving next Tuesday for the northeast with a little detour to Michgan on the way.

The best time depends on your interests.
Fall is great for the foliage as it changes color, the wineries would be in full production and winter for skiing, ice fishing, and such.
We enjoy the Maine coast for Acadia National Park and the lobster, Adorondak mountains of New York in late September for the foliage - we stay at Megunticook By The Sea in Camden, Saint Lawrence river area in summer for fishing and water sports- typically stay at Jacque Cartier State Park in Morristown, NY,Finger Lakes region of New York for the multitude of wineries and water activities (our home area). The mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont also have a lot to offer.
If baseball is a passion, Cooperstown for the Baseball Hall of Fame, for football, Canton Ohio for the Hall of Fame.
Can't speak much on the more urban offerings of the cities - we run the other way... Good luck, Mike

New England States were part of our 2011 Trip to Nova Scotia from Texas. On the way north, we were in upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine in mid July to August--lots of great times with great weather. After 3 weeks in Canada, we returned to Maine, Massachusetts, and New York beginning on Labor Day until we were finally south of DC in late September. Again--great time--great weather. I did notice that many of the campground in Maine, NH, VT, NY, MA posted closing around mid October. We were gone before that time but I recommend checking out the closing dates. As Max stated it all depends upon your interest. His suggestions of Maine was right on. But if you like football you have the New England Pats. located in Foxboro and just by chance, one of the best RV Resorts in the country, Normandy Farms just happens to be there too (indoor pool, workout room). If you like yachts then head to Newport, Rhode Island and while there take in the mansions of the ultra rich. Cape Cod is a nice place to visit - the best clam chowder I ever had came from a small rest. in Provincetown at the tip of the Cape. You can also take in wale watching while on the Cape. Those are just a few I can think of but enjoy and have a safe trip.

You may want to reserve asap...we are experiencing some challenges making reservations out of New England returning to Florida.

We like the mountains for color and sight seeing. More incline to the history and the natural beauty of nature and old things. The fall maybe best for us.
I know that the wife is interested in the whale watching.

As Tim mentioned, many campgrounds close in mid October. Some stay open all year for winter sports, but they are few and far between. We typically make our last to the mountains on Columbus Day weekend. Usually, the leaves are gone by then - and quite often we have snow...
