Not your typical Work Day beginning

As some know, I work on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere West Virginia (Boone County), regardless, a recent morning's arrival at the office and lo and behold we have company. A dumpster raiding bear greets us at the parking lot. A co-worker snapped a couple of pictures of the acrobatic raider. The chain link fence that was installed because of previous episodes is not a bit of a hindrance:

Enjoy,
Bingo

Wow!
How would you like to meet that in a campground? I suppose with the bear on the opposite side of the fence gave you a little feeling of security at the time. However I imagine that you stayed close to your truck didn’t ya?

We usually stay well away, in fact there has been 1 time I was ready to leave for home and got delayed because a bear decided that the bed of my pickup was a nice vantage point. Here I am on the porch yelling at the bear to go so I can go home. With my influence (or possibly he just got bored), he quickly disembarked and I was able to leave. Deer and Turkeys and Bears.....OH MY!!!

Something tells me his 'tummy' was not only full but quite scarred up from that razor wire on the top...Probably wasn't in the best of humor when he did get down.

I haven't seen a bear around here but did happen upon a couple of Raccoons in the trash several months ago... I never knew they had such long and vicious front claws!! Another animal that is nasty to be around..

Hey bncinwv, I thought I had heard you say you had a bear of a job. Well, there you have it. Me thinks now you need to invest in a reinforced chain link ROOF to solve that problem! Then you can get rid of the razor wire so you don't anger them.

I recommend you invest in one of those small air horn devices (and ear plugs for you) since the bears hate really loud noises. But still keep your distance when using it and always look for their "friends" so you don't get bushwhacked.

I have had enough bear encounters while backpacking, camping or RVing (one bear even sniffed at my head while I was sleeping - that's a long story I'll avoid for now) to know they don't like loud noises, they are just looking for easy meals.

NOTE: NONE of this applies to Grizzlies, Kodiaks or Polar Bears, just the local continental U.S. Bears that are mostly the smaller species.

BTW - Great pictures!
