A MOC Member confesses

Forgive me father for I have sinned.
I made a dumb rookie mistake today, but I don't think it will be a problem.
I was unhitching alone today and forgot to remove one safety chain.
I went to move my truch forward to get the ball out from under the hitch and pulled the trailer off one of the support block that the tongue jack was on. Fortuneately the trailer came forward onto the hitch ball and the second 2x support I was using. So it only came down about 2" and the truch hitch supported it along with the jack. I was bummed but I think lucky. It was dumb. I always double check and for some reason missed this.
Jack performed perfectly, Hitch uncoupled with no problem and TV seemed fine. If was not much of a move really but I still was disappointed in myself. However in accessing the incident I don't think any damage occured.

Your thoughts regarding this and what I could expect to be a problem if any?

I doubt there is any damage. It's definitely more of an issue when You drop a 5'er.

Don't despair, it could always have been worse

Confession is good for the soul. You raise a very inportant issue. There are some important do's and don'ts concerning rv living. Glad to hear not much damage occurred.

These sorts of things will happen. When hooking up alone with our old TT and in a hurry to get to the campground before dark, I forgot to crank up the tongue jack, subsequently plowing a twenty foot furrow in the back yard, all the time wondering why the truck was towing so sluggishly.

When Marsha and John arrived home, she had a good laugh because she knew what I had forgotten to do!

As long as we learn from our mistakes and they are not serious, it can be a good learning experience.

Glad there was no damage. I think everyone of us have done something like that at one time or another. I dropped a 5ver on my truck once.

Well, since we're in "confession mode", I did a really dumb thing night before last. We were overnighting and did not unhitch. We were level side to side but low in the front. So I ran the truck's rear wheels up on two 2x10 boards on each side and did final adjustments with the airbags. To stabilize the rig, reducing movement, I not only put down the landing gear and rear stabilizers, I also put one of our BAL 'tween wheel chocks, the $50+ variety, between the wheels but just on one side (thankfully). Next morning after raising all stabilizers and retracting slides I moved the truck off the blocks. Never noticed anything amiss but when I went to put the blocks away I noticed the wheel chock laying on the ground. When I pulled forward it twisted and dropped down, then I ran over it with a trailer wheel. Bent the handle to almost flat and one of the "wings" is bent out of shape. I think I can fix it but, if not, it's not a real cheap mistake. The tires seem to be fine. I watched them this past two days on the road and they seem to be fine.

We've all done something stupid at one point or another. With our last trailer, a TT, I took it in to a brake shop for some work, and while un-hitching managed to drop it. Luckily, the tongue was down and it only dropped about 4", but it scared the dickens out of me. I was so embarrased, I never told Shari. (TT is gone now!)
