Should I Buy an extra 30' cord?
As I go down my list of things to buy for our new 3295RL home I am wondering if I should purchase an extra 30' 50amp extension cord. I did buy the 30amp converter but wonder if the 30' cord that came with our rig is long enough to reach the campsites hookup.
I would appreciate any advise on this one.
Thanks.....

We have never had to use anything longer then what we got with our Monty. I think I read somewhere that you aren't suppose to use anything longer then what they give you. I think I read that on the Keystone website under manuel/electrical but I am not sure.

Our experience is the same as Kathi's. In a campground, never had a need for a longer cord.

Only time I have ever needed an extra cord was once when we camped at an open area campground where we all parked in a circle with our awnings facing the center. I would think about it a lot before I invested $125 for something I would only use once every few years. Our old camper only had a 30amp service so we bought a 30amp cord. Those are not to bad, maybe 25-30 bucks at Wally world. I would maybe purchase a 30 amp cord for that rare occasion that you would actually not be able to get close enough to the power pole. Might have to use a little less electricity. But it's better than toting the heavy 50amp cord around.

We leave our 50 amp cord at home because it is too heavy to lug around. I already had 2 30 amp cords so we take them with us. I bought a 30/50 short adapter. We don't have the 2nd air so we don't need 50 amp.

Welcome Bruce and Linda to the MOC.
I do have a 30 amp extension cord and in 2 years have only used it twice but I was very glad I had it and would not want to be without electric.
I also carry 50 feet of drinking water hose and 50 feet of sewer line. I also carry every conceivable adapter for electric, water and sewer. I would rather carry the extra than have to do without or be forced into buying it at the camp store or the local RV store. These folks kinda have an unrealistic mark up on some items. My 50 to 30 AMP adapter cost me nearly 3 times more than Camping World but I had to have it and the only place close by that had one was the campground store. Never heard of a CG with 50 AMP only but you never know.

I have the original 50 amp cord and bought the 30 amp extension cord and adapter. I have had to use it a couple of times. Most of the older parks do not have 50 amp service and I end up using the 50 amp cord with the 30 amp adapter anyway. The 30 amp cord is lighter and easier to store and handle. Our trailer works fine on the 30 amp service.

Contrary to other replies, we've used our extra 25' cord (30AMP) a number of times when there has been problems with the outlets we've hooked up to and we had to go to other outlets to get power. Another good thing to get maybe a water splitter.

It is one of those things were you may only use it once a year.. but if you don't have it you are in a world of hurt..

We carry a 50' and 25' cords. We have had to use the 50' quite a few times It is a heavy cord. We do a lot of older campgrounds and they are not lay-ed out with 50 amp or close outlets. We do not carry our 50amp cord as we do not need it.

I agree with 315rls I have camped in campgrounds in Tenn where I have had problems with an outlet. It would sure be nice to be able to reach another outlet if I needed to.

I bought an extra 25' 30 amp cord about 15 years ago and have only had to use it for the extra length only once in all this time. However I do use it here at home to hook up the Monty and not have to deal with the extra weight of the 50 amp cord.

When generator camping, have 4000 watt Honda generator in bed of truck. Truck is usually parked in front of the travel trailer and need the 30 amp extention cord to reach the generator while still giving plenty of room to move in space between truck and trailer. So definitely needed for our situation.

We carry a 30-amp extension, too, and have for years and years. We've only "had" to use it for the extra length just a couple of times. Never a problem when we used it for extra length although there probably was some voltage loss.
Mostly I use that in conjunction with an adapter to avoid handling the 50-amp cord whenever I can. Especially in cooler weather that 50-amp cord can be a bear to get coiled up and put away.
