US Hwy 56 East from New Mexico

Can anyone tell me about what US Highway 56 is like going east from New Mexico toward Kansas City? We will be travelling from Santa Fe, NM with our Monty and need to decide upon hwy 56.

Are you sure it's 56 and NOT 54?

Yes, 56 is north of 54 a ways and for part of the way is somewhat parallel to 54. I have previously traveled 54 and know the route quite well.

56 is a good road. Lots of trucks, at times, but a decent road. You'll be going right past my home, our new RV place we're building and our Dairy Queen. The DQ is 1/2 block north of the stop light at the intersection of 177 & 56.

Understand, see you are going north from Santa Fe. Traveled 54 and see that 56 is basically the same. Sounds like you get free ice cream if you take 56.
