Norcold Fridge 3 Dead Fans

This may be the wrong forum but I thought I would pass along my problem with the Norcold fridge on my 3120RL ( 2021 )....

We returned home from a short trip and at some point during the trip home or unhooking I blew the 5amp fuse to the circuit board on the back of the fridge. After replacing and blowing the second fuse about 10 minutes later I began troubleshooting.

I first noticed blades of a fan laying off to the right side behind the fridge. I had no clue there were 2 additional fans way up top above the fridge. After getting up on the ladder I found that one of the two fans had the entire center blade mechanism fall out and just the outer case was left

The second fan when given power began to whine but the blades wouldnt spin. Im hoping this failing 2nd fan is what's causing the blown fuse ( trying to spin a broken fan ).

The fan above the circuit board was also dead.

I bought a couple fans from Best Buy ( PC Fans ) and installed them after a couple days of being up on the tip top of the ladder.

Testing now to see if the fuse blows again and if our temps go down in the fridge ( was not very cold on our last trip ).

The broken fan almost looks like it was burned as you can see in the photo.

Im posting this because I have seen videos of people swapping out the fan just above the circuit board and never mentioning the two fans directly above their head - makes me wonder

Jim,

First, welcome to the forum!

The fans really help your reefer cool. Your unit may have had the ARP mod (fridge defend) which adds fans.

Yes there are three fans behind your fridge.
I discovered the "snap disk" thermostat controller wasn't working. I installed a digital temperature controller. Works great but I may still add more fans at the top.

BTW the wiring diagram for your fridge is in the plastic pouch BEHIND the chimney.
FIRE HAZARD.

Yup, that fan is toasted. Replacing it, and the other two just for ducks is an appropriate thing to do. I you can fit larger fans in any of the three locations that's wha5 I would recommend. Those look like 80mm fans. They turn at high speed and make a lot,of noise.

If you can squeeze 120mm BeQuiet! Fans in there they are....quiet, and they move more air than a smaller fan.

Thermaltake fans are pretty good too.
