West Yellowstone, MT to Dubois, WY
We will be leaving Grizzly RV Park & Cabins in West Yellowstone, MT heading for Dubois Wind River KOA, Dubois, WY tomorrow (07/21/24). My Garmin is telling me to go through Yellowstone National Park via West Entrance Gate, then right on Grand Loop, then left on US26 to Dubois (152 miles). I'm in a GMC 1 ton Dually pulling a 42 ft 5th Wheel. Has anyone done this route? The alternate route would be take Highway 20 (South) from West Yellowstone, then ID-33 E through Driggs to Jackson, WY (this would pass over Teton Pass) into Jackson, WY then into Jackson, WY then to US 189 to Dubois, WY. Any input would be appreciated.

You will be fine going through the park. It will take you down to Moran Junction. Good wildlife viewing opportunities as you head to Grand Teton. Enjoy.

I’ve did it several times. No problem. While you are in Wyoming be sure to see the Cody Museum. It’s fabulous.

You might want to consider the traffic you will encounter in Yellowstone in July. Not in a hurry; ok. Also, don't forget the park entrance fee. The Jackson route is 60 miles further and you have to go over Teton Pass.

Yellowstone route is fine. From Moran to Dubois has a bit of a climb, but hey, it is the mountains! LOL
Also, if you like this sort of thing, Dubois has the biggest collection of USA vehicles used in WW2 in the world! Discount for seniors and I think free for military. Very interesting story about this place as it is 100% owned by a private citizen.

Do a search for Dubois Military Museum. I understand from a friend the owner Dan Sparks has spent 100 million on the museum and the locals say he has spent over a half billion in Dubois. His wife likes to bowl so he built her bowling alley in Dubois. If you need helicopter to a hospital and live in Dubois he will pay for it.
Sounds like a good neighbor.

Update:
I made the drive through Yellowstone National Park (YNP) yesterday with no problems. Traffic was actually not bad in the park. Entered YNP at 9 AM and got throuigh West Entrance in about 10 minutes, smooth sailing through rest of YNP. Thanks to all who posted suggesting to us this route instead of going over Teton Pass and through Jackson, WY. Highway 26 was a beautiful drive all the way to Dubois, WY.

Glad you made it safely. We did have to go over Teton Pass last year to go to a mobile tech. It wasn’t terrible, but this year they had to repair a landslide. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
