If you are legal in your home state, you are legal in California. That doesn't mean that you can't get ticketed for exceeding the California speed laws however.

I love San Diego. A lot has changed since my Navy days. What a beautiful city . We stayed in the gas lamp district last time we were there. Parking was expensive but that was before our RV days lol.

I know I am one person who will not travel in CA anymore as my truck has non-CARB certified modifications. It also does not have the CARB required DPF filter in the exhaust system not will I modify my truck to have one. No DEF, no regen cycles. I'm legal in Illinois where I live.
Apologies for the rant here but it is something to consider when travelling in CA with diesel TV's.

No, you are not. Just because they do not check or inspect in your home state, it is illegal to remove or render inoperative any emission equiptment.

Wow did this ever go off the rails. It is illegal to tamper with and emissions control device in any state. Now about carb I drove trucks all kinds in California. For over 40 years. So I may know little something. CHP does not enforce carb they don’t have time or bugget for the equipment. Carb enforces carb they will set up at a highway scale and do there thing but they certainly will not pull a Pickup pulling a 5’er from out of state to enforce a law in calif. now speeding is a entirely different deal that’s the CHP. Now I know calif has some really wacky laws but if you are legal in your home state you are good to go in calif. Big trucks are a totally different story and that’s the info you keep hearing it does not apply to rv’s from out of state. Hope this puts things in a better light for all.

My 08, 6.4 Ford is ILLEGAL in all states. I have removed all the pollution control devices on it. If I get caught it’s up to a $10,000 dollar fine. With that said I don’t know of anyone that has got caught.

We had a discussion about a month ago about devices to improve fuel mileage. That discussion is about exactly what I did to my truck. You can look at the exhaust pipe of these trucks and tell instantly if it has been tuned. If the pipe is clean it hasn’t been tuned if it is black from carbon it’s probably tuned.
Why did I tell my truck was tuned, I don’t care if you know. Who is going to check your truck? Have you or do you know anyone who has ever been checked? I don’t.

interesting.... $10K a ticket for deleting your truck. You would think CA would find that a good revenue stream.

It’s a federal law. I don’t know who would get the money. I’m sure someone here would know.

CA dissuades residents from deleting/removing the Smog gear by having biennial Smog inspections (both gas and diesel). No Smog certificate, no registration.
