Been to a lot of Rallies and have never heard of one stolen. Surely there have been some, but not common. We don't really worry too much about ours. Since we have a Pullrite superglide hitch, the capture plate will make a real mess out of the head on their hitch at the first corner.

I have followed the Open Roads forum for as long as I have been on MOC, 15 years. I seem to remember only one, maybe two, posts of stolen 5ers in that time. And only a few more TTs. Doesn’t seem a big problem.

My big fear is someone stealing the truck with trailer attached while we're sleeping when boondocking at Walmart or Cracker Barrel. I put a big Club on steering wheel as a deterrent.

Thanks for making the poll AZ Traveler. I would be interested to see those numbers..down south I've seen more TT stolen for putting on deep woods properties/hunting camps..but I saw quite a few posts on the full time RV'ers and RV Tips Facebook groups.

Seems to me I've read on several Forum that I belong to that there have been some fivers stolen but most of them have been from storage lots. There was one last year that got stolen in Texas and they found it down in Mexico on the beach but that seems to be the latest one I've heard of.

Our last one wasn't stolen but wouldn't have hurt my feelings if it had been.

We had ours broken into in storage. A teenager living next to the campground/storage area was convicted. Stole a bunch of things, but what got me is he also stole a handgun and shot at his sister’s boyfriend. I testified as a victim and he would have been put on probation if I hadn’t shown up at court. He still had my fishing license in his room. His Mom wouldn’t let the police talk to him until he started stealing from her.

Unless you are camped within 30 miles or so of our southern border I would guess the chances are better of winning the lottery in every state that has it on the same day, than having any RV stolen from a campground.

About like folks worried about their surge protection being stolen in the middle of the night. Never heard of it happening but everyone seems to think it will.

My friends toy hauler was stolen right off his property. Never to be heard from again.

Our old trailers were broken into a few times. Public storage was a pain for us. One method they used to enter was to break off the plastic roof vent, drop a kid down the opening then unlock the door. At least it was less damaging than the two times they pryed open the door. Or the time they pryed open the storage bay door.

Mike,

Good reason to never lock the doors. The damage is generally greater than what might be taken.

Would you store one unlocked in an outdoor site? Our friends stored one by the beach and homeless moved in.

I would not store mine in a lot that didn't have security.

Since 1975 have never had a 5er or TT stolen or broken in. Luckily we have always owned a home with driveway storage. That may change this year since we are contemplating downsizing which means that some sort of storage facility may be needed. As far as any other trailer, never heard of any though the closest lot had a streak of theft and broken into RVs
