Fading exterior

Hi all, Has anyone had any trouble with the exterior fading? We have been through this with the front cap and keystone did pay to get that painted. This past spring we paind over a thousand dollars to get the oxidation removed from the sides and back, After doing that , we purchased a metal rv cover with sides to keep it out of the elements. We had a blow out about five weeks ago and had to put the unit in the shop for repairs. We noticed when picking up the unit the oxidation is already coming back. This has set out in the elements during the repair process which took about three or four week. We have a 2014 Montana High country 218Re
Thanks for any advice.

Fading issue greatly reduced if you wax two or three times a year.

I have seen RV's that have a grey exterior and they seem to have fade and oxidation problems. At least in southwest Florida. It might be the color. Our mountaineer is also a 2014 and its tan and ours looks brand new still even in the harsh Florida sunshine and we only wax 1 time every year. of course we only use nufinish but that's us.

I don't know what the deal is with Grey but it seems to fade bad,I have seen MANY Arctic Fox and Wildcat 5er's and Open Range 5er's and YES a few High Country's in the parks with the same problem, one guy I talked to with the Arctic Fox said his started fading 2 years after he bought it and just gave up waxing it and had the front cap Painted and it looked great,he had not got to painting the back cap yet and the top of it was Hashed and he lives in the NW like me A.K.A..very little Sun Exposure

And not just RVs. Cars and trucks painted various shades of grey and silver grey have long had a tendency to fade and oxidize. Does grey absorb more UV than other colors? Certain pigment maybe?

Protec makes a couple of products that has really impressed me. For fiberglass, they make a paint moisturizer and polish. Both are easy to apply. The moisturizer penetrates the gel coat and helps bring back the color.

I have the same year and color HC. I put a good wax job on it with a buffer. I keep it stored in a pole building at this point. It unfortunately only gets out for 2-3 weeks. I guess when I retire in 20 months and snow bird in AZ I will see what happens. Makes me a little nervous to hear and warranty will be up. Good luck but use a good RV was.

I have the same year and model HC. The front cap had faded badly and was repainted under warranty. The back is now fading. I wax it and it looks great for about two weeks , then the fading returns. The side looks like it is now starting to fade even though it is waxed. I imagine it will look like crap in two years or so.

the oxidation was really bad on our this spring. We spent over a grand to have it buffed out and it looked like new for about 5 or 6 six weeks. Very disappointing to spend that amount of money on something that will look like crap this soon, more than likely we will go with sob when upgrading.

Select carefully because it is not just a Montana problem. From postings on other RV forums, other brands with certain colors are having the same problem.

I saw a TV show on how Newmar motorhomes are built, and how they do 2-3 clear coats and buffing between coats, and wondered if there were companies that could do that to fairly new 5th wheels, that want to protect the paint color from fading? In the short term, I had a full body paint job done by Montana, and then had my dealer put on that Maxxgard coating, that is supposedly good for 5 years, and I'm off to give it a wax job this coming Tuesday. I am on the waiting list for a covered storage space. Hope they build them soon. Wish these paint jobs would last longer than what I am hearing from you all?

OK, I'm sore from all of the work. We are not allowed to wash our RV's at our storage facility with a regular hose, etc., so we brought about 10 gallons of water, and brushed the RV with a Meguiar's soap solution first, then used the brushes with buckets of clean water to rinse it, and then I started to wax it with a Turtle wax liquid that buffs off easy. So after washing it, and waxing half of the RV, I am done. I will go back tomorrow to finish the rest. Jeez, what a lot of work! What wax product do the rest of you use, that gives a great shine, and good protection, but buffs off easily???

Do you guys use buffing wheels, or just apply by hand and rub off by hand? It is about an 8 hour job, as far as I can calculate.

I have used NuFinish for years. But it is not a wax, it is a polish. Use it on a new rig, and then periodically, and it is great for maintaining that new look. Not what you want to use if you are trying to restore a faded unit.

My 3820 is brand new, but I could only find an outdoor storage place for the winter, and I am 5th on the waiting list for when they say they will build covered storage at this facility. So I waxed it before winter, and will probably wax it when I am set to go out again in the spring. I will try the Nu-finsh next time. I wish I could have a paint company put 2-3 clear coats on top of my full body paint job, like they do with the Newmar motor homes, that make them look real rich and deep and glossy.

I use a orbital buffer with an application pad to put on then wipe off by hand. Have been doing it that way for many years.
