Got the Monte inspected -- for the first time

Got the state inspection for the first time in 8 years yesterday. TX has always required it, but did not enforce it. But now you cannot renew the registration without proof of current inspection. So I towed it to a local inspection station. Guy checked the lights, good. Checked the tires, good. Looked to see if I had a breakaway switch, good. $7 please. I said do you need to check the brakes? No! So even though I have current inspection, you just have to take my word that the brakes work.

They had a MH there also. I asked if they drove it for the inspection. No, they just check the lights, tires, wipers, horn. He said that ever since the boss backed a MH into the side of the building, they were not allowed to move large vehicles.

Sounds like a good place to go for an inspection, minimal as it was. Sure pulled a wheel and inspected brakes when we lived in VA

The inspection is just a jobs program and extra money for the state, in my opinion. Safety was just an excuse.

In Missouri were I grew up, vehicle inspections were always just "going thru the motions". It provided revenue for the state and whoever made the stickers that went on the windshield. Lights, horn, wipers, car sat on it's own 4 tires, exhaust didn't burn your eyes ... you forked over the money ... they slapped a sticker inside your windshield. See ya next year ........

At least on cars and trucks they actually drive them to see if the brakes work. And we live in a county that requires an emissions check (Dallas, Tarrant - Ft Worth, and surrounding counties).

Bill- Like you, registered in Texas for 9 years. Never had to inspect our 2006 3650RK until this year. The dealership I took it to checked the brakes! $7 please!

Yep same procedure in Livingston in Polk County. Thank you for coming and that will be $7 per vehicle and oh BTW when you go to register that will be another $7 per vehicle!

So truck, trailer and 2 motorcycles cost $56! Ugh!

I will be shocked if Illinois does not get on board with inspecting RV's. They have tapped about every other revenue stream and most license plate renewals are now well over $100 a year. They are still broke and about $150 billion in debt so why not pick on the RVers.

Same here. Our stuff is registered in Texas. Our 5th needed tags in May. We were in Mo, going to Co for the summer, will not be in Texas till November. We called Polk County tag office. OK, just get it inspected within 4 days when you get here this fall.

Sent in the money and they sent us a sticker. Will be the first sticker for the trailer.

Polk County knows if you got a Rainbow Dr address you are not there...

Montana registration is $50 a year in Mass. which recently went up from $35. No inspection, but it's got to be coming. We have a state government that loves to spend money and are always looking for new and different ways to tax the folks. When it does happen, you can bet it will be more that $7.

I live in Va. We have a state inspection for RVs. I've had an RV for 25 years and have never had one inspected. When I get caught I will pay the fine and still be way ahead. I forget and let a car laps once and got caught. I ask the, very nice officer if it was a hanging charge he assured me it wasn't as he handed me the ticket.

we have an semi annual inspection. cost is 25.00. they are suppose to pull the wheels. Well a lot of the places that use to do inspections stopped as they could not make any money. Now the RV dealers advertise wheel bearing repacking and inspection $99.00. Good deal if they do each wheel.
