CountryGuy & Big Butt vs the Tunnels of Custer
Partially tongue in cheek, a LOT of silliness, I wrote about our experience driving Big Butt through the narrow tunnels of the Needles Highway, Custer State Park area, Custer, South Dakota.
First part, HERE
Second part, HERE.
Me bad, ya, I know.

I am glad you made it. My Monty is 13ft 4inches tall I will not be going on that road. I do like the fact that I can stand up in the bedroom (I am 6-5).

NO Tana in tow, just Big Butt. Taking Tana on this road would have resulted in a new roof. Pretty sure there are signs down the way, before you go up there, NO TRAILERS, etc. Don't believe I have a photo of that.

Great news! If you can get through there then ANY SRW truck will get through there with ease and leaving the mirrors out (not extended for towing). Of course I wouldn't recommend a high rate of speed. And don't break down either unless your rear window can be opened (my truck's rear window slides in the middle) or you aren't getting out cuz you can't get the doors open. That would make me awfully claustrophobic.
That was a fun read, Mrs Country Guy.

Carol,
Two of these went thru ahead of us the day we were there. We could hear the mirrors dragging as they went thru.

Wayne, can I add a link to Reflections to that photo???
Doberman, I believe our Montana is taller than that, 13 foot 1 inch. One of the signs for a larger tunnel says it is 12 foot 3 inches high. HMMMMM

Thanks Wayne!
One of my blogger friends wrote me, said her Blue Bird school bus was 8 foot wide. I wrote her back and asked how tall it was, waiting a response. I snooped around a bit for size of tour buses, saw 10 foot to 12 foot something.
According to my map, the tunnels on Iron Mountain Road are 9 foot 7 inches tall. If those measurements are like the ones on Needles Highway, they are WRONG. Shorter. GULP.
That same maps does say: Busses, RVs and trailers may find it difficult or impossible to negotiate the hairpin turns and tunnels of the byway. Yes, I believe so! LOL

Been there done that this last summer. Couple tunnels were very close, especially the one on Needles Hwy. Not much room to spare at all for a dually. Had to fold in the mirrors and that got me a little butt squeeze not being able to see them rear fenders.......lol

Carol, we took our dually through those tunnels 3 years ago. Really tight squeeze! Didn't think we would clear! Beautiful country up there too.

Carol, we followed a not-very-small Class A through that tunnel on Needles Highway! I think we may even have a picture of it somewhere.
