I don't believe the cap was changed until 2006 with the recess in it. We have a 2003 ford short box and a 2005 Monty and need the slider for tight turns in campgrounds or wherever else you need to.

I have an '04 Dodge, 4 door, short bed and i use a Superglide slider with my '02 2955. it would hit the cab without the slider on a sharp turn.

Just wondering, and not being sarcastic.
I wonder how much a rear window and body repair cost after getting in a tight turn. I have read where others have done it but no price tag was noted.
I do have a 16K superglide in a short bed and would not think of doing without it.

I have an '07 Dodge shortbed and '07 Montana with the cutback nose. I can turn shorter without a slider with the new nose than I could with our 2001 and 2003 models. But neither can turn a full 90 degrees without contacting the cab. I have a little dent on the cab to prove it. I had a manual slider at the time but did not use it, so the effect was the same as not having a slider. We now have the automatic slider, the superglide.

I rarely needed the slider and you might be just fine without one but just be careful and pay attention. It was the time I wasn't paying close enough attention when backing into a site that got me. Because my wife saw it coming and got me stopped is the only reason our damage was negligible.
