To be serious.. A memorial service or funeral is certainly not for the deceased. It is for the living so let them make the decision. Part of that would be honoring your choice.

When I die put a nice Arturo Fuente between my fingers toss me in the smoker. Add some hickory chips and reduce to ashes. After that it's up to the family. I must say that over the years I have attended many after death meetings. Emotions are sometimes out of control and people sometimes say things they regret later. I hate that part. I'm just saying it's not "always" warm and fuzzy. I sure hope they appreciate the Scotch I left behind! Just my thoughts,
John

I agree with Stiles. Leave your loved ones some preferences but also leave them some choices as to how to deal with their loss.

I think we are the last generation who do the Memorial Day flowers and visit the graves of our forbears- It is a soothing time for us but not something I see the younger generation carrying on- I know my son loves me and will remember me after in his own way- With no family to tend the gravesites, why have one? Cremation for us and let the wind scatter the ashes at a favorite site- JMHO- Don

Maybe a better idea would be to donate your body to science. It is cheaper than cremation and you can help some medical student that needs a cadaver to whack on. Disposal will not be your problem either. You die, have someone call the medical school, they send over the wagon and it is done, not even any ashes to worry about.

Stiles, I have made my choice, I don't need "a better way", if you would like to do that, it's up to you.
I asked at the start of this thread personal choices, not for others to tell me mine is not good.

Ozz, I didn't fall off the turnip truck. I would not even contemplate telling you what to do. An open forum is an open forum. As such all comments are not singly addressed to the originator.

I've talked with Laurie and she agrees to only use a pine box and at the end of the service she is to play the country song "Prop me up beside the jukebox when I die, fill my boots up with sand place a siff drink in my hand"... you get the picture. She is not to spend a lot of cash and to have FUN!!!!
For her mother's funeral we played "Ding dong the witch is dead the wicked witch, the wicked witch is dead". LOL

My wife and I do not want a funeral, nor do we choose to attend very many.
My body will be donated to science since I don't care what happens to it after I'm gone.
April's will be cremated and ashes spread where she has designated.
Relatives, friends and enemies are free to weep, disregard or celebrate in whatever way they prefer, with no restrictions or guidance from us.
To each his/her own, eh?
Larry

Yes Larry, and with no judgment. Our lives lived, and our death arrangements carried out by our direction.
