Retired on wednesday
My last day of work was wednesday.Took off to Florida on thursday morning early.Arrived at my camp ground in Summerfield,FL around 1 pm on friday.Left philly it was 39 degrees, arived in florida to a balmy 86.I`am loving this already. Its saturday and this is the first saturday I haven`t had to work in a few years. It feels awesome.
The company had a real nice retirement party/dinner for me on tuesday night. It was very special. Not a dry eye in the house including me.37 years with the same company will do that to you.I`ve left a lot of good friends for my new beginnings.I am so lucky to be able to do this at 56 years old.I count my blessings every day.
I visited the "Villages"OMG this place is not to be beleived.Just georgous.30 golf courses and every one I saw the fairways looked like astro truf.Just beautiful. This retirement life is the best and I`am only 3 days into it.
The truck and Montana did great on the drive down-no problems.I was worn out though. And my lab was good also,he just layed his head on my knee and slept just about the whole trip(good doggy)

Congratulations on the milestone. I made it a year and half ago. Didn't take long to settle into the new lifestyle.
BUT. Now the weekends and holidays just don't seem the same.
And paid vacations? You are paying your own.

John,
We are so happy for you. Wow, long time to work at one place! Congratulations on your early retirement. Life is just too short to waste it working. I'm sure you are gonna love it, we do!! We'll be heading to Texas this year, but maybe Florida will be in our future. It would be nice seeing you again! Al says to say hi to the Lab. Sounds like he's being a very good doggy!!

Does that mean after 42 yrs that its time for me to retire? Its getting close and I am getting very excited about it. Working on trains and braving the weather has been very trying the last few yrs. So looking forward to the house selling and everything gone, and full timing here we come.

I cut the ties to my company back in December, after 30 years. I'm only 60, and so far it is the best "job" I've ever had! Of course we already live in Florida, and can't wait to get out!! Been here most of my life, but summers are just too much any more, as are taxes and homeowners insurance. Harleyrider mentioned The Villages...do yourselves a favor; unless you want a cookie cutter, "Stepford" like existence, stay away from there! Wall to wall homes and one of the highest rates of STD's in the entire nation! (Some old folks are very active!)

I joined the same club on Wednesday 9/30! However, I am 65. Both hubby and I planned on retiring the same day but due to some health concerns we "thought" he had, we pushed his date back to January 7, 2010. That time will fly.
Enjoy this time.

Congratulations on the retirement! You wore me out just thinking about that 970 mile drive in two days! You're retired now and can take it slower, you know! Good luck and enjoy that retirement!
