transporting a mobility vehicle

Does anyone have a mobility vehicle and if so how do you transport it in the Montana?

Old GI,
I have a four wheel mobility cart. I carry it on the front of my truck. I have an electric powered lift. It is mounted in a regular 2 inch receiver. I got the hitch from U Haul.

It was originally mounted on my Ford PSD 250. When we traded for a 450 I took it off the 250 and put it on the 450.

When we first started traveling we made a ramp out of 3/4 inch plywood and rolled the cart up into the trailer. This got old very quickly and then we found the electric lift.

I had a water proof cover made to put over the cart when traveling in wet weather. The load on the front of the truck can be intimidating. When we first started traveling with it there I was really nervous! It can be scary to see the thing bounce around. But we've had it on the front for about 4 years and so far no major problems. I think I have a picture of the setup on my Picasa photo page. Just click on my picture link and check it out. I'll double check to make sure it is there.

Good luck.

HamRad

On edit: The pictures are in the album called "Siskiyou, Shasta".

Thank you Hamrad, my F350 should handle it ok, I also have a four wheel mobility vehicle and you are right, putting it in the Montana was difficult even with ramps. I will get a front receptacle mounted to the truck. I have an electric lift for mine also. I never thought of a front receptacle, thanks again now I can hopefully do some traveling again, still can't handle campfires but I'll try. Pete

Did they have to make any modifications to the front of your truck?

Old GI,
I did not have to make any mods to the truck. U-Haul makes specific receivers for the various vehicles. As I said I had the thing on my 250 and simply moved it to the 450. I did have to alter the receiver just a bit to get it on the 450. There were two places in the receiver that did not have bolt holes. We had to torch and drill out access holes. Of course you must remove the front end to get to the mounting area. But it is straight forward.

Just check with U-Haul or any local outfit that you think would have what you are looking for.

Any further questions just drop me a note or post here.

Good luck,
HamRad (Dennis)
