New tires--2 " Taller
I am looking into replacing my Missions (ST 235/80 R16) with BF Good.,Commercial,TA3(LT235/85 R16). Will the almost 2 inch higer tire mess up my level of the truck and trailer? Will I have to adjust the hitch? I have a 2007 Monty 2955RL and TV is Chevy 2005 2500 D/D. Thanks!

You will probably be the best judge as to whether or not it changes your level any. I wouldn’t expect to see very much change. If it does at all I would think it would possibly add a little more pin weight on your truck. This of course is assuming that you are replacing the tires on your camper. When I switched trucks the Dodge actually stood about 2 inches higher than what the Ford does. I really couldn’t see any significant difference in the level on our unit myself.
If you are close to a set of scales you may possibly get it weighed before and after you change the tires. This would tell you how much weight might be shifting which might indicate a change in the level as well. If you do weigh it I would try and keep the same amount of weight in the truck and camper each time to be more accurate.

grizd, when my tires were replaced on my 3280 a couple years ago, they put the 85's on it and it wasn't even noticable if they were taller or not. We had the 80's on the Montana and had a problem with alignment, reason for replacing tires. If they did stand an inch taller, you won't notice any difference.

I put Michelin LT235/85 R16E on my '07 3075RL and there was no noticable difference.
Remember, if the tire is 2" taller, that only translates to the 5er being 1" taller. 1" is below the axle and 1" is above the axle.
Make sure you have enough clearance between the tires for the extra diameter. Mine was no problem.

I am not sure where the 2" figure came from, but that doesn't sound right to me. I sounds more like a 1/2" difference which would translate to a 1/4" difference in height from the ground to axle center.
Unless you have adjusted your hitch to maximum height, hitches can be adjusted higher. Pin boxes also have adjustments (not easy, but possible).

We have LT 235 85-R16's on our 3400 with no problem and little difference. We got about 1 inch taller.

On our prior Montana we went to the BFG Commercial T/A tires you are contemplating. They were excellent tires, by the way. We got them in an LT designation. Anyhow, I don't recall noticing a height difference. Is that 2 inches in diameter, which would raise the rig 1 inch? Or is it two inches in circumference, which would not raise the rig noticeably? In any case, we didn't notice any height difference but also didn't measure it.
I'm not sure what the TA3 designation is on the tires you are considering. Ours were T/A, so maybe they are not the same?

I did not think about one inch below the axle! Great forum! Thanks again!

As others have stated, one inch higher on the axle will probably not make any difference.

Does the LT235/85R16 fit on the original alloy rim that came with the ST235/80R16?

Absolutely. The tires are the same width, they are both 235 mm. The only difference is the height.

I got the new tires today! I can't tell any difference in height-level, etc. Any one want to buy some used Missions with good tread and no bulges?

Hi Grizd...I also had the Missions replaced yesterday with BF Goodrich Commercial T/A's.The Missions are going out in the yard sale on Saturday. And they are going cheap.
I also could not tell the difference in the height.
