Dean,
I'm confused, which is nothing new, but which do you have.... a 2003 or a 2006 Montana? That might make a difference for some warranty work. Some of the individual items are covered for longer than just the first year that Montana offers.
Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis,
We have a Late 2006 3400RL Montana. Purchased in late May of 2006. Our current major issue with the black tank is it is leaking badly at the top somewhere. Does that have more than a one year warranty?
PS: The truck is a 2003 Ford F250 7.3L Diesel.

With our 2008 GMC K3500 (SRW) and 2007 3400RL, on two trips so far we've gotten 11.5 on the first and 12 on the second. Set the cruise at 58 MPH, engine running at about 1700 RPM, and let the Allison/Duramax do their thing. Truck is just now approaching 5000 miles on it. Yep, still new!

With my previous 2005 Ford 6.0 on 3000 mile trip we got 13.5 mpg pulling and around 19 mpg solo.
I didn't make any longer trips so far, but pulling to the local CG I had around 11.5 mpg pulling.
Yesterday I was coming back from the fishing trip driving solo on the way there computer showed
19 mpg on the way back regen kicked in and mpg went down to 14 mpg. The trip was about 80 miles.
It seems like regen occurs every 100 to 150 miles. I have less then 5000 miles on the truck.
I am really concern about how often regeneration kicks in. It's driving mpg way down.

06 Mountianeer 342PHT
06 F350 4X4 Crew SRW, 42K miles
12-14 when not pulling, Truck in work mode, Ladder Racks, 1000-1200lbs construction stuff, ladders, etc
16-18 when not pulling, with no load/racks off
14.2 Pulling (Average mileage to date for all trips over the past 3 years (total pull miles, 23,400) as of this AM. Another 3500 to be added over the next 4 weeks as vacation starts tomorrow. I do net expect to see any major change in the 14.2 average). Tank to tank when pulling we average 13.2 hill country, 14.5 on the flats watching speed). We budget fuel based on 14MPG when we plan our 3-4 week trips.

We are pulling a 2006 Montana 3400RL with with a 2008 Chevy 2500HD Duramax with the Allison Transmission. Our Noramal routes take us through the Rocky Mountains (Colorado), Wasatch Mountains (Utah) and the Cascades (California). I have expiremented with different driving speeds to see if I can find the perfect speed to maximize milage. I am finding very little change and am getting between 11.2 and 12 mpg fully loaded but without water. Two weeks ago on a 600 mile trip, I decided to go with the flow of traffic to see what would happen. With an average speed of 70 to 75 mph we still averaged 10.6 mpg including the pull up and down several canyons in the Wasatch mountains in Utah. Our Chevy only has 6,000 miles on it so we hope to get a bit better mileage once it's broke in.

LynnNJoyce,
A little warning about 70-75 mph. If you have ST tires (including the infamous Chinese-made Missions) they are only speed-rated to 65 mph. I usually cheat to 67-68 mph on the interstates, but still worried about those time bombs. Ours did meet with failure, Tireco replaced them with another Chinese-made tire, which we will only use for the rest of this year while watching speed closely. Be careful out there.

On our trip to Florida in March, 1129 miles we averaged 14.8 mpg-U.S. travelling between 62 & 70 mph. Without trailer going 65 mph we get 23-24 mpg U.S. I think I'll keep this baby for awhile.

WE have and 02 Ford. One of the last 7.3. Pulling the 2955 we got 11 to 11.5. Now with the new 2980 it averages just under 11 mpg. That was pushing it, so maybe if I slow down it will come back up to 11. Good reasone not to by a shiny new Ford. FMC has really fallen on their face. Have a Good Day

07 Silverado, crew cab, 3500, SRW, Duramax/Allison
07 3295RK
11.5-12.5 mpg towing using cruise & tow haul mode whenever possible.
18-22 mpg unhitched, keeping my foot out of the accelerator. DW always gets much better mpg the me, has a much lighter right foot.

Our '95 7.3 liter PowerStroke gets 9 to 11 mpg towing, 15 to 17 empty (which isn't often).

Maybe I should not be complaining so much about the 08 Ford 6.4L. We are doing as well as most of you pulling this 3400 anchor. At the end the day we do 10MPG on a regular basis, sometimes a bit more... we did 11.3 on PA interstate 80 for over 100 miles. Here around Altoona and State College ,PA with some pretty good pulls we read 10 MPG right now. Solo we do not do as well. The best we have seen is 17.3 normally around 15 or so. There are way more folks here who tell it like it is here..than on some other forums..

A co worker of mine is in the same boat with his 2008 F350 srw. He gets average towing mileage with his 2009 Cougar 5th wheel, about 10-11mpg. However he only gets around 14-15.5 empty on the highway. Nobody has any answers or solutions for him, been to the dealer a number of times and hes tried a programmerwith no noticeable increase in mileage. Great looking and great towing truck but hes terribly frustrated with it when it comes to daily driving.
We tow with a 2006 Duramax CC4x4 and do between 10.5 and 11.5 towing and 18-20 empty.

Fortunatly the Ford is not our daily driver and it appears our towing MPG is not far out of line, if any, with the other two brands. Folks on this forum are much more honest.

I Pull a 3000RK w a duramax and get 10-11 MPG(@ 60-62MPH), 15-16 mpg average town and hiway. I got about 60,000 on it. Would love to know what those that get 14-15 towing are doing right.

Since my GMC, an 02 model does not have an onboard computer, I have to check mine by figuring my own mpg. We average from 10.5 to 13.5 pulling the 3280.
The 10.5 was usually at the 70mph mark, of which I now don't do! I have been towing a lot slower these last couple years and the mpg has improved considerable. Retired means we have more time to get there!
Solo was a different story, as high as 19.9 and no complaints there. Now, the truck sits until we need a truch, costs too much to drive it to the grocery!

I have pulled my 2955 with an 2000 7.3 PSD, an 2004 6L PSD, an 2006 Duramax and a 2008 6.4 PSD. I dont see any difference in the fuel millage in any of them. The only difference I see is the new trucks are much quieter, and much more powerful. They just keep getting better!
