I'll bet those engineers that work for Keystone and the ones that work for the truck companies went to the same college.

Richfaa, my comments about the springs were in regard to an F250 and an F350 single rear wheel, not a dually. I'll have to go back and look but I think I made that distinction. If not, then it should be made. A dually is totally different.

The only difference between an F250 and F350 SRW being the rear suspension is fact. You could look it up. Or go talk to the Ford parts and service people like I did. And one of their engineers.

I just talked to Ford - they looked up the parts and ordered 3 sets of leaf springs so we can make an F550 out of my old truck. They said its a Ford, so everything else is identical. I'm going to haul 25,000 lbs of mellons between borders.

Naw really - you guys do what you think best. I surrender - I'll mind what I keep in the garage and keep one eye out for parts on the highway in front of me. Have fun -

Now my memory has been refreshed as to why I promised to never say anything one way or the other on a weight related thread. It has no bearing on anything what weights are given, what engineering criteria is used, what the dealers or TV salesmen say, or what the MOC forum says. The buyer needs to gather his/her own facts, reach their own conclusions, make their own decision, live with it, and live happily ever after!! That's my story and I am sticking with it also.

bsmeaton,
That's funny! I don't care who you are, that's funny right there!! I had a Ford salesman tell me that there was no difference between the F-250 and the F-350 when he didn't have a red F-350 on the lot, so he was going to sell me the red F-250 he had on his lot. I told him he was full of $#!^, and left that lot to order the one I wanted from another dealer.

Rich, I hope you didn't think I was questioning those figures you posted. I just simply want to see what they changed to get those figures.

Roger, thanks for the info in the post.

Brad, hang in there bud, we're gonna make it through it.

Brad..............is that a slider hitch?

Also, how ya gonna mount a louvered tailgate on that dude?

Holy louvers, batman! That's a folding wooden louvered tailgate, isn't it? It's the first one I've seen. Wonder if Wally World will have'em on sale this spring?

A lot of the basis for my concern is that when I started shopping for a 5er, I spent over an hour with a factory rep from Keystone at an RV show. We talked about the new cap design along with a whole host of issues. When we talked about TV, he clearly told me that short box, 4x4, 3/4 pickups were the most popular on the road and they specifically designed all of their trailers to be pulled by this vast market"

Look at that statement again...he told no lies. They are the most popular on the road and they can pull any Montana. Nothing false there just not the entire story.. a good salesman.

I was not questioning anybodies statements or opinions. When I noted on the Ford Build your own truck site for theo8's we noted F-250 Max paylod 2280, GVWR 10000lbs F-350 SWD Max payload 3640 GVWR 11,500lbs..If the suspension was the difference my thought was..that is some suspension and why can't I order it on the F-250??? Maybe my eyeballs are getting old but when I look at a F-250 and a F-350 the 350 seems to be a all over bigger truck?? I find this conversation very interesting.

Actually, Rich, you can order it on the F250. It's called the "Camper Package." Not the tow package but the camper package intended for slidein campers. I doubt it really adds to the official numbers but it's the same springpack as the F350. I priced it before getting the airbags on my 2005 F250 but the airbags were cheaper than swapping the springs. I at that time asked which parts are different in the F350 SRW and was told only the rear suspension. That's on the standard F350 SRW. You can get additional upgrades on the F350, like larger tires, etc. But the standard truck is the same except for that springpack. I also have an acquaintance (a friend I correspond with but is not a real close friend) who is a retired Ford engineer in the diesel truck arena. He confirmed that for me, as well. We all know the larger payload, and thus the GVWR, of the F350 SRW has to be at least partially because of the heavier springpack. And we also know the tow ratings and GCWR for the two trucks are identical. The difference is in the GVWR and payload. Also, sometimes they put taller blocks between axle and frame to make the F350 stand a bit taller.

If there is any other difference between the F250 and the F350 SRW I'd think someone could tell us what that is. So far, other than quoting ratings, nobody has. Anyone out there know for fact any other differences?

Steve.Interesting on the "Camper package" When adding the camper package to the F-250 it does not change the numbers. From the Build your own truck site again...F-250 Camper package Detials...Heavy service front springs 4X4. Rear stabilizer bar SRW only. For the F-350 SRW Camper package Detials...in addition to the Heavy service front springs of the F-250 they also add "Rear Auxiliary springs" which I assume maybe are what we call "helper springs"Could it be that a set of Helper springs make that much difference??

"OK guys (and gals), let's don't get hostile, but I found this subject interesting. From the little research I've done, I believe the GMC 2500 and 3500 suspension is very near the same. Perhaps just a difference in springs and tires. I still have more research I want to do, including a call to my GMC parts man back home. Opinions? Facts? I think I am well within my vehicle weight limits, but I am just curious."

It seems we have gotten a little off topic. I am curious to find out if you have gotten an answer to your original question from anyone in the know????? Not answers about weight, tailgates, louvers, beat up old trucks or "so-called" legal issues..

Thanks for checking on this......

I told you one main difference wayyyy back up, but no one paid any attention to an old country boy! Starting in 1999 the F-350 DRW (notice..DRW,not SRW) has the Dana 80 rear end. which is 10 bolt. the 3/4 has a smaller rear end, usually a sterling maybe a dana 60 which is a 12 bolt. thus for the DULLY, not the single rear wheel 350, bigger axles, bigger brakes and drums, heavier tires. before 1999 both f250 and f350 had the same sterling rearend. I'm thru here, going fishing!!

After all of this some on topic, a lot off topic, I'm accepting the difference being the additional spring in the GM 2500 to the GM 3500 SRW.
That was the original question.
If I'm wrong someone please show me the difference.
